Eversince Marc Jacobs hired unglamorous starlets and a certain Hollywood celebrity to become the faces of Louis Vuitton, I felt mild disgust for the brand. Also, recent updates on LV's famous monogram bags have taken away some of the class and glamour associated with the luxury brand. I'm sorry, but the last thing I need to see on a perfectly well-crafted monogram pochette is a
cherry tree smiling at me. I suppose luxury brands have decided to sell out (note: Fendi).
Though I have to admit selling-out isn't always a bad thing (e.g. the Fendi B Bag. Though it is in my opinion that B bags are not anything highly original, I find some styles appealing!), I prefer a hard catch. Up to this day, I still ache for a
Hermes Kelly bag. But we all know there is a minimal three-year waiting period for you to get one. And in most cases, you actually have to wait to get on the waiting list! I'm not so very sure if their policy has changed since last year...hmmm, I pretty much doubt it. Some sites sell pre-owned Kelly and Birkin bags, but you can never trust them online.
Speaking of bags, I really need to start taking care of mine, including those that are not high-fashion. My doctor's bag from Gucci is starting to lose its shape, and I haven't even used it much! My Gucci tote has little scratches on its strap, as well as a stain on its white monogram canvas; My pink Marta Ponti has a small stain (can be easily removed); my two Nina Ricci bags have been butchered mercilessly- the first one has a chipped leather interior, and the second one (which is old) is missing its handle; and my least favorite Dior purse (monogram canvas in plain black) has a broken lock. Consider the fact that I hardly use these! My only pimped-out bag is my tote from Ferragamo, and oddly enough, it still looks new. But then, Ferragamo makes great leather goods, so why should I be surprised?
My inexpensive bags suffer more- I cleaned out my collection and sent about eight or less to the trash bin. Also, I discovered a fake Burberry bag in my closet. It was a gift from a good friend of mine, which I received about two Decembers ago. Unfortunately, I'm not into replicas so I had to rid myself of it. I am seriously obsessed with handbags! Everything from European luxury brands to the less expensive and locally-made Aranaz brand, bags have become my obsession and favorite fashion statement. I always inspect every single detail to make sure it's purely made of quality. I can't stand fakes, so I always scrutinize every single detail: from the stitching, to the labels, and what-have-you hither and yon. I hate receiving replicas as gifts and I have an intense disliking for those who promote them. I can't stand awkward stitching, cheap material, and unappealing styles. I rather have an inexpensive bag made of wicker, carefully crafted by professional Filipinos in the province. Believe it or not, they're every bit as good as Dior's wicker bags, so never underestimate certain things that are Philippine-made. Remember, the Queen of Spain owns eight purses from a local brand. Be proud.
Does anyone know other brands- besides Hermes -that use fjord leather in making their bags? It's waterproof! And does anyone still care about Nina Ricci?
