Input please! How do you picture the Next Gen kids?

Sep 12, 2011 18:23

Specifically Teddy, Victoire, James, Rose, Al, Scorpius, Hugo, and Lily.

Hair color/texture? Skin? Eye color?

What houses are they in? Who do they take after, personality-wise? Who do you pair them with?

Please share!

OOoh, one of my favorite post-war topics... :D

For Teddy I tend to stick with the turquoise hair, though he will turn it brown when he needs to. His father's mousy brown. Somewhere between ear and shoulder length.
I see him with his father's facial features, but a more Black build (and a bit more Black attitude, given who he was raised by). Eyes changeable because of his abilities. Depending on who I pair him with, his house and attitude changes a little.
With Draco or Scorp (or another non-canon Slytherin), he's usually Ravenclaw, but sometimes Gryffindor, and a bit more formal, if flirty.
With Weasleys or Potters, he's nearly always Gryffindor for me, but occasionally Ravenclaw (dad's influence), and can be either very flirty, or very trustworthy and rule-following.

Victoire I don't have as much of a picture of. I picture her somewhere between Fleur, Ginny, and Hermione. Solid and sweet, but with a wicked streak, and not afraid to use her Veela abilities if she can. Blonde with a slight reddish tint, Blue eyes. has the best of both of her parents in her. Very confident, and not afraid to go after what she wants. I don't tend to write her much, but when I do, she's Teddy's ex (or soon to be), and usually okay with that. I haven't thought as much about her house, but probably Gryffindor.

James is a dark auburn-haired boy with lots of freckles and takes after Fred and James in pranking. He can get a bit harsh and pushy at times, but he has a soft spot for certain people. Definitely a Gryffindor. I ship him most with Teddy, though sometimes Draco or his brother, but never anyone else.

Rose is another I haven't used much (I just don't tend to ship the girls much at all...). I see her as a slightly more red-haired and down-to-earth version of her mother. Bookish, so she could go into Ravenclaw, but most likely Gryffindor. Brown eyes. I don't really ship her at all.

Al is just like his dad in looks, but a softer personality. He tends to worry and think things through a great deal more than his brother, and ended up in Slytherin most times, despite everything (or because of his father's reassurance). If not in Slytherin, he's either in Gryffindor (pressure) or Ravenclaw (just to be different from his brother). Most times, I have him as best friends with Scorpius (often leading to young love). I haven't shipped him much beyond that, but I don't mind the idea of him with his brother, father, or Teddy.

Scorpius is just like his father, though his personality is much softer than Draco's as a result of the post-war feeling. He's the one I ship with the most people, aside from Teddy--His father, Grandfather, Best friend (Al), or distant cousin (Teddy). He's generally confident, if not as much so as his father was, but more purely confident in himself, and less leaning on others.

Hugo and Lily I use about the same as Rose, which is to say not at all, really.

Hugo I see as stubborn as his father. Red, short curly hair, but darker than his father's, blue eyes, I think. Probably a Gryffindor.

Lily's a bit more buxom than her mother (I see Ginny as very slender), with a shade darker red hair, but brown eyes. Definitely a Gryffindor.

My (more than) 2 cents. :)

Finally, someone who can embrace canon! Thank you for that, I was about to delete this whole damn post in frustration!

Your Teddy definitely seems like mine, especially the hair. What do you imagine the 'Black build' is like? In pretty much every next gen fic I've read, Victoire has been Teddy's ex! That seems like a really common fanon thing. What color eyes do you think James has? I never seem to have as clear an image of him as I do for his siblings. Rose is an odd one...I always see her paired with Scorpius, but I've never really been into Dramione, and Rose/Scorpius tends to feel exactly like Dramione. Al being a 'softer personality' is something I totally see, too - and for Scorpius as well. I guess if James is confident, it works well for Al to sort of feel in his brother's shadow (when he's not a little minx who wants to get in his pants, that is!). Al/Scorpius is such a popular OTP...I resisted for a while, but after reading a few really great fics with them they absolutely became OTP for me as well!

I'm so glad you shared, no matter how many cents' worth that was! Thank you!

*hugs* I know what you mean. People really hate the epilogue with a virulence, don't they?

Black build...slender muscled, taller than Remus would be. Not sure what the male version of the heart-shaped face is, but probably long and slender, not pronounced cheekbones, but more than Remus's, I think.

I think the Teddy's ex thing comes from the line about him kissing her in the epilogue. Like Ginny and Astoria for Harry and Draco. ;)

James I can go either blue or brown, really. Depends on my mood most of the time, if I think of it at all. ;) Probably blue if I'm writing him romantically, I think. ;D

Yeah, I used to be into Dramione, but I havent' since HBP. Just stopped working for me with what Draco went through. And I totally agree with you about Scorpius/Rose.

Heh. Yeah, I think he's got some of the tricky in him, too. Just not as much as I tend to think of in James. Firstborn, and somehow the perfect mix of a Marauder and a twin... ;) (god, that's weird...I just remembered one of my first random pairings in sims was James/George...heh)

Al/Scorp is so Harry/Draco next-gen that it's hard to resist. The one that always tends to bug me (usually because people get the canon facts wrong) is James/Scorp. Just doesn't work for me.

:D I'm glad I did.

[warning: I got very long-winded!]

I'm not a fan of the epilogue...not so much for the characters it introduces us to as the style of the writing. But, I mean, it's canon! I get that people say that the stuff Jo's talked about in interviews, and while I don't feel the same way, that's fine. But the epilogue is part of the actual series! Its details don't come from supplemental materials or interviews or anything; they're right there in black and white. People ignore the epilogue all the time and I don't even bat an eye, because fic is always presenting AUs for everything - that's sort of its purpose, really - but I don't get it when people are just absolutely in denial about it.

I'm always going back and forth on Sirius's build versus Remus's (not to mention which one tops), so I have a hard time picturing Teddy beyond his face (though fanon loves the idea of him having a massive 'werewolf cock' LMAO).

I love the idea of Victoire naturally falling into the role of fag hag once she and Teddy are no longer together (and Teddy's with a guy - usually James) because it seems like a much healthier relationship than what Harry or Draco might have with their respective wives, you know? They're still young and she doesn't pine for him at all, and they stay friends and confide in each other...not unlike my Draco and Pansy, come to think of it.

No matter how hard I try, I just can't get an image of James in my head that feels right! Al, of course, is the spitting image of Harry, and my Lily is the visual representation of Harry's Oedipus complex *snort*, but James is just a personality (his namesake's, for the most part), not a visual..anything.

I have a hard time seeing Rose as anything other than Hermione's mini-me, really, at least as far as looks are concerned. I've seen her depicted with red hair and it just feels wrong somehow. She's hard to pair off because, if you're giving each character one monogamous relationship, well, James is with Teddy and Al is with Scorpius and you get into incest territory for all the rest! *g* We need more non-Weasleys in the next gen! I've read fics where she's good friends with James and sort of acts as his conscience, just a little bit like Hermione with Harry. And I'm pretty sure I've read a fic or two where she and James got together, but IDK...

I have the clearest pictures of Al and Scorpius, probably b/c they're the ones I've read most. For me, they both look a lot like their fathers, they're on the 'soft' side (more quiet/reserved/etc), are both Ravenclaws and are, of course, best friends who eventually become boyfriends. But despite any differences between the generations, they're more or less H/D reincarnated, and it's just so perfect. I can put Al with one or two others, but I can't see Scorp with anyone else of his generation besides Al...definitely not James!

Long winded is fine! After all, that's what makes conversations fun!

Yes, I suppose if I had to boil down the issues I have with the epilogue, because I have problems with it too, it's that it was obviously not re-written (there's no mention of any of the characters that she added into the later books at all--Luna in particular, but it just feels like too much is left out), and because she made no attempt not to make them their own characters, except for Teddy. They really are all mini-me versions, as you said.

Part of the problem with Teddy is that there are so many versions of James out there. Canon or not. An exact older version of Albus, the redhead, etc. But for me, in the books it pretty much implies that Albus is the only one that looks like Harry more than a little bit.

I understand the dislike of the interview kids, but I like the additions of them, particularly Luna's twins, just because they, at least, are non-Weasleys. But really, we need more. To get away from the OBHWF. :P

I have to admit I love Scorpius with Teddy. It's one of my top next-gen ships. Mostly because they're the two I adore the most, and because I've rpd them with a friend. But yeah...James...not.

James with black hair bugs me for some reason...probably just what you mentioned!

Luna's twins were good to have as non-Weasleys, but I've yet to see them developed in a way that I can get behind, so I'm reserving judgment with respect to their usefulness in fic ;)

I've tried Teddy/Scorpius and I just can't get into it...any recs?

:D I need to try to write some of the boys at some point. They're slowly firming up in my head. Ravenclaws of course (with those parents, how could they not be?), Lorcan's the head-in-a-book kind of student, and Lysander's more flighty, though how depends on the storyline I'm going with. :)

Well, I can't think any off the top of my head that aren't mine, but I can link you to mine, if you're interested? I've done a few with pretty different versions of them.

A Day in His Shoes and On the Short Walk Home are all I really have, plus an unfinished drabble series from last Christmas.

The Teddy and Scorpius in this are both very different from each other.

whoops, went over the character limit!

I guess my breakdown looks something like this:
-Teddy: mousy long-ish brown hair turned different colors (often turquoise), hazel eyes, fairly slim, tall but not too tall, soft-spoken but brave and passionate, usually a Gryffindor. Shipped with James, and occasionally Harry, but works with just about anyone in the right circumstances.
-Victoire: pretty much the spitting image of her mother but with a different skin tone and freckles, slightly bigger-boned (but still slender), playful but not a prankster. No idea what house, and don't really ship her with anyone.
-James: can't settle on looks, but probably dark (but not black) hair, slender but athletic, the only one who can only ever be in one house (Gryffindor, of course), a bit brash, sometimes a smartmouth, confident and outgoing. Shipped with Teddy, and occasionally Al. Can worth with Rose too, I think.
-Rose: mini!Hermione, but not as serious, the natural leader among her cousins, likely a Gryffindor. No idea who to ship her with, but she can be great friends with Al & Scorp, and sometimes James.
-Al: looks-wise an absolute mini!Harry, the only one of his siblings with black hair, green eyes, or glasses, shorter than James, sort of lives in his brother's shadow, more studious than athletic or mischievous, usually a Ravenclaw for me. Shipped with Scorpius (OTP) and occasionally James.
-Scorpius: looks-wise pretty much a mini!Draco, sometimes with glasses, more slight and almost frail, shy but very smart, usually a Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Shipped with Al (OTP) or Harry (but more for one-offs than a relationship).
-Lily: looks a lot like her namesake, but with different color eyes, hair more auburn than ginger, petite and slender but a little more curvy than average, sweet and a daddy's girl, very pretty and popular, as a teenager comes off as a bit of a slag (she just likes sex, and good for her!), almost always a Gryffindor. No idea who to pair her with.
-Hugo: kind of the forgotten one, really...ginger, a bit quiet, not as up for mischief as his father would have liked, probably a Hufflepuff.

Definitely sounds like ours are similar. :)

Sounds like Hugo needs more love, though. Poor boy.

I guess we just have to be thankful (really, really thankful) they reshot the epilogue with better age makeup...not that the final version was good, but god almighty was it an improvement!
