So we went to go see "Prince Caspian" yesterday. My dear husband had intended for it to be a surprise, but his mom kinda ruined it the night before by yelling out "What time are we going to Narnia?!?" which was really lolzy.
Anyway, my thoughts. It's been 3 years since I last read the book, and I don't remember it as well as I should, so my thoughts on the movie are on the movie itself, and not necessarily movie to book differences.
First of all. If the entire movie had just been the camera following Reepicheep around as he cut off motherfuckers at the ankles and made snarky comments, I would have loved it all the same. HE. WAS. AWESOME. "Yes, let's collect nuts. To throw at the Telmarines.", "You people have NO ORIGINALITY!", tying up the cat (omg ♥)...yes, I would go see a movie with nothing but Reepicheep and his compatriots.
EDMUND. PETER. SUSAN. LUCY. I can't even pick a favorite Pevensie, you guys. They all had moments of sheer AWESOME. Edmund, so done with Jadis' shit, stabbing her in the heart FROM BEHIND. Peter, completely kicking Miraz' ass, and then LETTING. HIM. LIVE. Susan, just being completely badass. I didn't even mind her little "love story" with Caspian, I thought it underscored really well the fact that she was growing up and couldn't return to Narnia. LUUUUUCY, who is just so adorable and awesome. I've always thought of Lucy as the backbone of the story, not just here but in the other books, her innocence and just pure HEART allows her to see what the others don't and she is just....♥!!
I liked Caspian a lot. Ben Barnes is a good little actor, definitely. Wasn't so hot on his "rivalry" with Peter, because THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED, but otherwise I liked him a lot. And I'm not too clear, but the part with him having a part in Nikabrik trying to resurrect Jadis was NOT in the book, was it? It seemed so...out of left field.
TRUMPKIN! DEAR LITTLE FRIEND!! Oh, so much love. I nearly teared up in the end when he and Lucy shared their hug. And how adorable was Trufflehunter, guys?? I just wanted to hug him. But then again I love badger badger badgers.
Overall, I really loved this movie. It wasn't "The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe", but that book is just so close to my heart and the movie was just so incredible that I don't think there's much that could top it. Now I just need to track down the book so I can reread it.
