SQUEEEEEEEE

So I just got back from Order of The Phoenix...

It was EXCELLENT. By far, my favorite movie of the entire series.
I was so worried for a while, cause I HATED Goblet of Fire. I felt it was too clunky, didn't flow well, and was in general a crap adaptation. But this?? Oh lord, THIS was better by about 20 million miles.

Things I loved:
- Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. These kids can ACT. DanRad especially. They just keep getting better and better.

- LUNA LUNA LUNA. ♥ Evanna Lynch IS Luna. She was great...but what was up with her pudding obsession?

- Umbitch! She was just the right amount of sweetness and viciousness. And the scene of her being carried away by the centaurs caused almost the entire theater to burst into applause. I have never had as visceral a reaction to ANY fictional character as I have Dolores Umbridge, and it was even stronger in the movie. That look she gives Harry as he realizes that he's writing with his own blood? Made me want to jump through the screen and throttle the woman. Amazing.

- The Ministry of Magic set. Man, the set directors went to TOWN. They outdo themselves with every consecutive movie. Incredible.

- Sirius' death. Oh my god. "Good luck, James!" "AVADA KEDAVRA!" And the way he falls through the veil and then..the score and Remus holding Harry back and....OMFG. I don't think I've ever sobbed as hard during a movie as during those...oh...2 minutes or so. I'm still shaken. And I loved the veil. More mist than fabric...and the way his body just...slowly vanishes...and...ok. I'm gonna make myself cry again, so, moving on.

- Kreacher. Just the way I pictured him and heard him. Would have loved to have heard him say "The mudblood is talking to me as though I'm her friend", but, eh, take what you can get.

- The DA. Wow. These scenes were done SO well. Neville is ♥

- BELLATRIX BELLATRIX BELLATRIX. "He knows how to play, does he, baby Potter?" "Neville Longbottom, is it? How's Mum and Dad?" AAAAAAHHHHHH SQUEEEEE. ♥ ♥ ♥ Helena Bonham Carter was the PERFECT choice for this role.

- The possession scene. Wow. Wow. Wow. "And I feel sorry for you." GAHHHHH *heart breaks*

- Tonks. Natalie Tena did a GREAT job with the little she was given.

Things that were Ehhh: (there was nothing about this movie that I hated.)

- Dumbledore, AGAIN. Michael Gambon, go do something else plz. You are not and never will be Albus Dumbledore.

- The opening scene. Didn't have the OMFG factor that the scene in the book did.

- Mrs. Figg. The actress just didn't...ring true to the role for me. These movies have a tradition of EXCEPTIONAL casting...and this was the one spot, excepting Michael Gambon, where I believe they failed utterly. Not batshit crazy enough. And no Mr. Tibbles!!

- Hagrid and Grawp. I love Hagrid, and I love Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid...but he was severely underused in this movie. And what he did have to do? Ehhh. Grawp was an awesome bit of CGI, and the part where he gives Hermione the bicycle handlebars was cute, but I was severely underwhelmed.

- The prophecy!! WHAAAAT. I feel very strongly that they should have quoted the ENTIRE prophecy, and they also should have brought up what I call the Neville Factor. And Harry should have heard it from Dumbledore. Although the way the orb spoke was well done.

- No CAPS!LOCK!RAGE!HARRY! WHAAAAAT.

Overall, I give it a 10/10. I could overlook the things they left out, which is extremely rare for me, and fanwank the things they changed, which is also extremely rare for me. I feel so strongly about the books, that the movies usually fail to impress me. But this goes right up there with Prisoner of Azkaban as my favorite movie in the entire series. They hit on all the important emotional moments, the story moved seamlessly from scene to scene, the visuals were all spot on and extraordinary...yes. I am a very happy fangirl tonight.

Now to start work on Chapter 3 of my Cake!fic :)

movies, order of the phoenix, fangirlyness, harry potter
