Obama-mania

Yesterday I was walking down Market Street in front of Westfield Mall when I saw one of those sidewalk stands promoting voter registration on behalf of Mr. Obama. The table was manned by a guy with a big smile who was enthusiastically exchanging buttons and bumper stickers "for a small donation of $3."

So I asked him if I could register even if I wasn't intending to vote for Obama.

"Absolutely," he assured me.

As I was filling out the paperwork, I inquired why he likes Obama.

"I don't," he said, "I just make fifteen dollars an hour here."

He further confided in me that he was actually a libertarian.

Finally, as I was signing the form, I wanted to know for whom he was going to vote.

"I don't vote," he proclaimed, "It's pointless!"

I shook his hand and walked away quietly making a mental note that perhaps with this kind of rampant enthusiasm in his campaign, Obama might not be so universally popular around here as it appears... So, is he really The One after all?
