The end is near

Just one more day is left, although I could go on for at least another month:

  • August 10: Went back downtown to the Art Institute of Chicago, where we leisurely browsed the permanent American art section as well as the Toulouse Lautrec exhibit. Met up with S. and his new wife for drinks at the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the Hancock Tower. A. joined us later in the evening. Spent a little more time with I. once we got back home.

  • August 11: Drove to Detroit and made ourselves comfortable at our extravagant Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, the self proclaimed automotive capital of the World.

  • August 12: Went to the Henry Ford Museum, which features a surprisingly unbiased historical look at the evolution of the automotive industry, as well as such oddities as the "futuristic" Dymaxion house. Drove downtown, but were quickly disappointed by the gloomy city reality and spent the rest of the day in the lively town of Ann Arbor.

  • August 13: Had the third oil change, crossed the border into Canada and spent a little bit of time at the casino in Windsor, Ontario. Arrived in Toronto and had dinner with V. and A.

  • August 14: Took the subway to the CN Tower, the World's tallest building. Stayed at the top for a while and had some drinks at the cafe. Walked around the neighboring area. Met up with S. and L. and were treated to another great dinner. Saw a free Sunday concert at the Mel Lastman Square. Had midnight martinis and chocolate fondue at the Panorama with V., A. and a couple of their friends.

  • August 15: Drove to the magnificent Niagara Falls and bought tickets for a ride on the Maid of the Mist, which sails right under the waterfalls. Had a memorable dinner with a view. Snapped tons of photographs. In the evening, took a detour to the Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario), looking for souvenirs. Crossed the border back into the U.S.
