End of the election season, thank god.

I would have made this post last night, but I was stuck at work way late and got home at bedtime. This is the first and hopefully last thing you'll see from me on the election.

Cut for liberalism (and length) )

How dare we vote! And how dare we vote in such numbers that our opinions actually influence things! I guess we should all go back to being good little sheeple!

I completely agree with you on both counts: that "drug enforcement" unfairly targets certain demographics and also, why the hell are we even arguing about equality anymore?

The thing that boggles my mind is that marriage equality is passing with a much narrower margin than marijuana legalization. I mean.

While clearly pot is not the uber demon drug some people would like to make it out to be, it is capable of having negative effects on people, including people who don't use pot... and the worst negative effect gay marriage can have is alimony. The marijuana legalization is a tradeoff - reduced criminal motivation, revenue for the state, and limiting the harrassment of disadvantaged populations, in exchange for the relatively minor negatives of greater marijuana usage - but there's simply no negative to marriage equality. None.

"Revenue for the state" is precisely why it's passing so much more. It was sold to the more conservative voters by the hefty taxes that will be levied on it - 25% at three different phases of production/sale.
