Just a few tidbits...

Here are a few quick things that I wanted to talk about that have come up in the last 24 hours...

One of the analysts was putting together an email for a client, a corrected Retirement statement for a member, which was missing some information the first time we sent it out. She meant to put "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused", but had spelled "inconvenience" wrong, and when she did the spell check, it caught that she had spelled it wrong, and made some suggestions. Well, she just picked the first word on the list, it turned out to be pretty appropriate for a retirement, but perhaps not the word she was going for:

"We apologize for any incontinence this may have caused."

And this is why we have a peer review process for everything we send out :). The consultant who peer reviewed it laughed out loud and brought it out to show the analyst, and when she showed me, I laughed until I cried, and giggled to myself throughout the afternoon every time I thought about it. I've been feeling pretty cranky today, that really helped :). Thankfully, the email hadn't gone out yet.

  • I found out yesterday that I won the TAG award I was nominated for. The person in the department that I TAGed won as well. My department doesn't usually ever win these things (I guess it would help if we TAGed people more often), but it was kinda cool that we won two for last month. I get to find out next week what the prize amount is, but it's always at least $100 on an Amex cash card, which is so handy around Christmastime.

  • My cousin has been interviewed in an article in the Globe and Mail for some research he has done at U of T (he's the "co-principal author Brad Jones). I don't know how long this link will last, so just in case - it's about a potential new way to develop an AIDS vaccine by looking at fossil DNA (to future me: ask Brad, if you can't remember what this was all about). He's a bright kid (he'll always be a kid, to me), I'm so proud of him! We had dinner a few weeks ago, and he was telling us all about this research. Cool.
