Yep. No gates or anything (well the two side forest service roads 955A and 955B both have gates but they don't look like they are closed ever.
However, like I said. there is NO amenities. Also, because there are no reservations, you could pack up a big group, head out there, and find out that some punk kids are throwing a party and there isn't any room for you.
It would be good for small groups, 5-10 people, only if they can take the rugged conditions. If you ever want to use the place, just suggest doing what I did and heading up there to check it out first, get a feel of it. However, there isn't much by way of parking either, so carpooling would be best. Wouldn't really suggest this for any sort of event, even a day trip one. Maybe a local outing or household get-together. Could be cool for some local 'hands on' A&S classes on period living and SCA Camping 101. ^_^
Oh, not that big. With a handful of people you could get the entire area picked up in a day or two. It's why I suggest people take extra heavy duty trash bags up with them. Can probably get everything in a go, just will need someone with a truck to haul the bags into town to throw them away. (shouldn't be TOO many, but i doubt that someone wants to have a load of trashbags in the back of their van/car.
Officially there are 16 spots, but some are fairly large (could fit like 5 normal tents [not the huge 3 room ones] in one of the spots), while some are very small (barely enough room for a single small tent), and maybe one or two are VERY overgrown and would require a bit of elbow grease to make them usable.
At max capacity, I'd say you could get 50 people or more there. The biggest problem would be parking. Would really need to have people carpooling and keep the cars down to as minimum as possible. You -could- try parking up the side roads (995B is real close) but there are not real turn around areas and the edges of the side roads is one cliff-face (sorta cut into the sides of the hill) and the other is a dropoff. It's -barely- the width of a single car, and the tress are pretty close.
I should have taken more pictures.
If you ever want to go up there, lemme know and I can go with you so you don't get lost.
The more the merrier... I know the web site says 7pm, however, there's usually a crowd building starting around 6:30 or so, if you want to show up early. I hope this fire smoke smog clears up soon! Makin my eyes smart. I'll be wearing a short sleeved aqua colored top and black slacks. My hubby, Charles, will be the only one in a [medical] neck collar.
