Warnings: Random craziness, flirting with cliche pick-up lines, groping, the sudden appearance of someone who's gone missing and one who's been long since dead. Mention of incest.
Dream Effect: Open admiration (for Elizabeth), confusion and fear (for Alice's well-being), embarrassment and attraction (to Tamaki), surprise and affection (for Sanzo), awkwardness and aching desire (for Gojyo), relief and fondness (for Goku). Then, as the coupe de grace, you will feel shock so intense that your entire body is paralyzed (Kanan has that effect on him).
It's a lovely spring day as Cho Hakkai sits at tea with Miss Elizabeth Bennet. The sky is blue, with only a few scattered clouds. The weather is mild and pleasant. They are sitting on a blanket spread out over the grass and chatting about quiet countrysides. She's a brilliant conversationalist; a strong, intelligent woman. Her looks are exquisite, and she's also highly skilled in combat. Hakkai wonders if she's indestructible.
His attention is so focused on her that the only time he looks away is to set his tea cup down on the blanket. But by the time he looks up Miss Elizabeth is gone, and an entirely different young lady is sitting across from him.
“Miss Alice?” Hakkai asks, looking around in confusion and wondering where Miss Elizabeth could have possibly vanished to. There's no explanation for it. None of the trees nearby are big enough to hide a person and there's no one else around as far as he can see.
“Is something wrong, Mr. Hawk-eye?”
“Well, yes. I was here with Miss Elizabeth just a moment ago, but....”
“Then, perhaps she's playing a game of hide and seek?” Alice says. “Oh! We should play, too!” She rises to her feet, intent on starting the game. “That way, we'll most certainly be able to find her.”
“You think so?” Hakkai is bewildered.
“Of course, get up Mr. Hawk-eye!” Alice grabs his hand and pulls Hakkai to his feet. He's reluctant, but plays along anyway as Alice continues: “Now you hide over that way, and I'll seek over in this direction....”
While she talks, Hakkai notices a that the grass below them abruptly breaks off into the air, as though it's the edge of a cliff. I'm fairly certain that precipice wasn't there a minute ago. But now it's right behind them. Alice is backing away from him and toward the edge. She's going to fall.
“Wait! Miss Alice, stop!”
It's too late. With a look of shock on her face and a silent scream, Alice tumbles over the cliff. Hakkai jumps down after her. He catches her in mid-air and pulls her close, cradling her head protectively against his chest as they plummet to the ground.
The impact is not as bad as expected. There a bit of a tumble, and then a jarring crash, but nothing that would cause serious injury. They stop at the bottom of a steep incline, and Hakkai pushes himself up onto his hands and knees. When he opens his eyes, the person underneath him is not Alice. “...Tamaki-san?!”
“Hakkai-san! You jumped off a cliff!” There's a look of sheer terror on Tamaki's face. Then he scrambles around, grabbing Hakkai's arms and legs to make sure they're not broken. “Are you all right? Does anything hurt? Areanyofyourbonesbroken?! YOUSHOULDGOTOAHOSPITALRIGHTNOW!!”
“I'm fine, Tamaki-san.” Strangely enough, Hakkai hasn't sustained any injuries. In spite of the tumble down the cliff, there isn't a scratch on him.
“Are you sure?” Tamaki looks up in concern for a minute, but then starts panicking again. “But you might have a hairline fracture! Or maybe some internal bleeding! Orperhapsyou'verupturedyourspleen?! I'LLCALLANAMBULANCERIGHTAWAY!!”
“No, really, Tamaki, I'm fine.”
“Well, if you're sure...” Tamaki hesitates for a moment and then changes from panic mode into the confident, flirtatious demeanor that he's so well-known for. “If there's ever anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.”
“Well, there is one thing,” Hakkai says, but then he hesitates a moment. “But, I suppose... it's not really something that I need.” His fingers slide up Tamaki's neck and run through several strands of silky blond hair. “Then again, doesn't everyone need to be loved?” There's a clueless look on Tamaki's face. Hakkai closes his eyes, puckers his lips, and leans in. Just before their lips touch there's a hand on his chest, pushing him away.
“Get off me, you fucking bastard!”
Hakkai opens his eyes to a very different blond. “...Sanzo?!”
“What the fuck did you think you were doing?” He swiped at Hakkai's hand, which had somehow ended up groping Sanzo's crotch.
Oh dear... Hakkai thinks. My hand definitely wasn't there before. It certainly wasn't there when it was Tamaki. His hands had been at his sides back then, or at least, he hoped so. “I'm sorry.”
“Tch... don't apologize.” There was a grumpy expression on Sanzo's face. “Let's go.”
Hakkai couldn't help but think that expression was adorable in spite of the fact that the other man was an ass. He followed Sanzo dutifully while thinking over all the strange things that happened. As they walked his gaze drifted to the side and off into the distance as he tried to find meaning to the recent events. By the time his eyes returned to the figure in front of him, Sanzo was gone. Instead Hakkai was face-to-face with his best friend, and long time roommate.
“First you're feeling up on Sanzo, and now you're making eyes at that other guy!” Gojyo accused.
Hakkai was stunned, to the point of being speechless. Is he talking about Tamaki?
“You know... it took me awhile, but I finally figured it out.”
“Figured out what, Gojyo?”
“Your sister had blond hair too, didn't she? Yeah, I think I remember you sayin' that. She was a total dishwater blonde.”
“What does that have to do with...?”
“You've got a blond fetish!”
Hakkai was stunned. That was completely ludicrous. You really think that I would choose to be with someone...based on an insignificant thing like hair color? “What are you talking about?”
“You've totally got a thing for blonds, admit it!”
And the way Gojyo was saying it with such vehemence, Well.... Clearly, he's jealous. “I most certainly do not.”
“You fuckin' liar! You so totally do!”
“That's not true, because...” Because if I was only interested in blonds, then I wouldn't feel this way about you.
“Yeah, because what?”
“Ah. It's nothing.”
“Yeah, whatever. Let's get back to the cottage.”
Hakkai sighed, and followed Gojyo. He was certain to keep his eyes on his friend this time, since it seemed like every time he looked away, someone new appeared. However, Gojyo was walking quite a bit ahead of him. As he walked into the cottage Hakkai lost sight of him for a minute. When he entered the building Goku was the only one there.
“Hakkai! I'm glad you're back! Can ya cook me somethin', Hakkai? Huh, can ya? 'Cause I'm really, really hungry!”
“Yes, of course,” Hakkai automatically replied. It was strange. Goku was supposed to be gone. He had been at Somarium at one point, but then disappeared. Hakkai was glad to see him though, so he took it all in stride. By now he had realized that this was probably a dream. He decided that if it was a dream, he might as well enjoy it.
He walked into the kitchen and started the meal right away. After half an hour of slicing vegetables, seasoning meat, steaming rice, and stir-frying, the meal was ready. Hakkai set it all on a platter, and turned toward the dining room. Goku was not the one sitting at the table.
“Oh Gonou, it looks delicious! I hope you used the right ingredients this time.”
“Kanan?” The image of his sister paralyzed him. It was her. He had loved her, and made love to her. She had been his first. She had been a part of him, everything to him.
She's dead.
With the memory of her suicide all of his muscles seized, including the ones in his hands. The tray fell and the food spilled all over the floor.
(OOC Note: Okay, this isn't really random at all. There's a meaning behind each character's placement in this dream (other than terrorizing poor Hakkai, I swear! ...Okay, maybe not). But it would take a lot of explaining, and this entry is long enough already. If you want to know why the characters appear in this specific order, then I'll be happy to tell you.)
