Rapunzel was so excited she'd barely managed to get herself to sleep that night. She'd never really gone and done anything extra special for her birthday before! Her mother used to put up decorations and bake cakes and lavish her with presents, but as Rapunzel got older the celebrations got less and less extravagant. Her 18th birthday, for instance, had dwindled down to a special dinner meal and that was that.
But this. This was going to be different. Rapunzel knew it deep down in her core. And just the thought of the special celebration and who it was going to be with made her heart pound and her head spin. Eugene had told her to dress comfortable which, as far as Rapunzel was concerned, meant that she could forfeit the shoes. They were far too constricting for her taste. The school uniform obviously wouldn't do, so Rapunzel picked out her favorite dress, the one she'd worn when she first came to the school.
The very dress she'd been wearing when she and Eugene met. It was only appropriate.
Once she was changed and washed and mostly ready - she still had her hair to fix up into a braid - she sat on the couch in her dorm room and waited. It was early, she knew that, but making Eugene wait was out of the question. It was probably about an hour before he said he'd come by to pick her up. Which was probably for the best, since it took her some time to carefully braid her hair. And when the braid was all done and the hour still wasn't up, well... She and Pascal set about decorating the golden plait with flowers of various colors and size.
She could hardly contain herself. If Eugene didn't come by soon, she'd run out and go look for him herself.
