My daughter (my seventeen year old daughter) came home tonight drunk. Not tipsy, not slightly inebriated - royally pissed. And on a school night, no less! Sure, it's summer, but she has summer... things... she goes to, right? So it's still functionally a school night!

And of course somehow I'm the one who ends up sleeping on the sofa (which is why ( Read more... )

I find it interesting that despite your obvious upset at the situation, you don't seem to be issuing any punishment. Most parents on my watch list would be promising that their wayward teen shall be grounded until they're whatever completely unreasonable age by the end of their post.

That comes in the morning. Currently it's ensure-lack-of-alcohol-poisoning but don't you worry; come six it'll be get-up-so-you-can-clean-up-your-mess-from-the-night-before-and-take-your-siblings-out-to-breakfast-then-to-the-zoo-for-the-day-while-your-parents-have-a-nice-quiet-day-doing-whatever-they-want-in-a-clean-house-without-five-children-in-it. I'm quite looking forward to that, actually...

I see. I suppose it's meant to be one of those cases of punishment in lieu of a life lesson sort of situations?

Haven't you ever been hungover? Four yelling siblings at a zoo full of other yelling kids and strange animal smells and cheap, greasy food... yeah, that's punishment enough, I think. That and the cleaning.

Not since university. And even then, it wasn't my preferred substance.

Oh, and now I'm being judged by a man with a drinking problem. How novel.

And I'm being judged by an H. You sure you've not been hacked by your brother?

I'm clean. I have been for years, and you know it.

Doesn't change the fact that that sounded more like something he'd say but I'm starting to suspect incivility in the face of an awkward situation must be a genetic trait for you lot so I can't say I'm all that surprised...

If you had any decency, you'd stop comparing me to him.

If you had any decency, you'd stop acting like him in the first place. I'd thought better of you, but I suppose that's just you proving me wrong. Again.

You started this by getting judgemental about something I'd never made an effort to hide in the first place. How is that at all my fault?

That wasn't me being judgemental - that was me being wry. My fault for forgetting how well the internet conveys such things.

Quite.

... and your fault for not having realised it anyway - do you really think I'm the sort to make that kind of judgemental remark, and in public no less?

Are you sure you've not been hacked?
