The last few days weeks have been really great. Outside of work, that is, but I'm not talking about that today. Today is a good day.

First - and most importantly - Father's Day was wonderful this year. I netted two ties, The Hunt for Red October on DVD, and three new drawings for my desk at work. I'm going to start needing one of those digital things that'll cycle through all sorts of different pictures to display them all - I'm about out of wall space and my youngest's just discovered charcoal as a medium, apparently. We then had bangers and mash for dinner - Penny hates the stuff but as it was my day she gave in to the boys' excellent idea. Even Charlotte ate some, though she insisted on some sort of fluffy pink cake thing for dessert in return. All in all the best day I've had in ages.

Next up what you're all really here for - the BBC's Sherlock. I've quite enjoyed it thus far, especially the policemen (and women) in the episodes and particularly their Lestrade (which I don't think I need to explain, do I?) I'm quite enjoying Cumberbatch's portrayal of Holmes - it's an excellent modern adaptation of the man. Penny said he's done some work in various period dramas so I have a feeling I'm going to be roped into watching those with her some time soon. Still, better than some of the silly American "rom-com"s she's so fond of. Anyway, more about Sherlock. I was pleasantly surprised by Freeman's Watson. I have to admit, when I first heard that casting decision I was a bit skeptical about how well he could pull it off but I have to say, I was completely wrong about that. In general, I have a few characterisation issues - particularly with John leaving the girl to die in the second episode and their Moriarty - but overall I quite liked the whole thing. I'm very much looking forward to next season, especially if any of the rumours about it are right.

And now that I've finally said my little bit on all that, I'm off to teach my boys a bit of important history before they're off to bed. I will catch you lot later.
