I've Loved These Days

Dec 25, 2004 23:54

So, my friends, it is coming to the end of the year and it is now time for reflection. Shall I begin the honors?

2004 has most likely been the most eventful year of my life thus far, and I have had to grow up in so many ways that I haven't before. Leaving high school, going to college, and the multiple deaths of earlier years have certainly thrown me for a loop, but this year has been one of conscious, Byrds-type evolution. To everything, turn turn turn...

Over the course of the year, I have had my heart broken countless times, and I have found the strength to mend it. I have nearly lost friends, and I have managed to realize what I had done to cause this in time to right the wrongs. I have worked three jobs at once, and am currently unemployed. I have thought of a thousand reasons to leave you all, and I have found as many reasons to tough it out. Through it all, I have found the greatest group of friends that one could hope for, once Ash and I finally opened our door. Between the Hallway, the few close friends remaining at home, and Ashley I have been lucky and have not realized it until very recently. My thanks to all of you.

I owe to my friends my discovery of alcohol, cigars, and the joy of swimming in November. I owe thanks for the shoulders I've cried upon and the drinks that arrived just when I needed them. I owe apologies for the caring gestures that I have thrown away in my usual, violent manner. I find that my friends are still here even after this year, so either you care very much or you are extremely tolerant.

I have slowly grown away from my home in Coventry, without too much care. There is something here that does not belong anymore, and I am coming to believe that it is me. As much as I try, there will always be someone who is not happy with me, and I have to deal with this accordingly. The coming year does not hold all the promise that 2004 did at it's beginning, but so many unexpected events occurred last year that I hope the trend continues for the better. So let us be there for each other and let the good times roll as long as luck is with us. Happy New Year, everyone.

Thanks to those friends of 2004 (in no particular order, apologies if you have been left out):
