Today I ventured to Capitol Records on Vine Street to see Paul McCartney receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to his Beatle bandmates John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. I was surrounded by what seemed to be hundreds (maybe even a thousand) people of all ages who came to see this amazing musician being honored.
For those of you who don't know, Paul released an album this week called "Kisses on the Bottom", which is full of old jazz and pop standards. This evening I was able to listen to a livecast from iTunes that took place from Capitol Records. As I sat and listened, I realized how this man, along with the Beatles, left us with new ways to look at music.
The livecast was shown in black-and-white, with a small string orchestra, piano, background vocals, and other instruments. I closed my eyes for a moment and let myself wander back to a period well before my time: when men dressed in tuxedos and women wore long, elegant dresses to attend smoke-filled lounges, sip cocktails, and listen to the velvety voice of a crooning singer taking center stage backed by various instruments.
You have brought back some of the best music in history with this album, Mr. McCartney, and I cannot thank you enough for all the many years of fabulous tunes you have given us. Your songs have given us such amazing times, painted many memories, and gave us varied emotions throughout. You are truly an amazing individual, weaving poetry and music to create art.
