Well it is. I attended my last class today, and finals are next week. Only three exams and a paper right now. All of them are at 1:30 which means no 8 o'clocks like last year, which is good. Studying will have to commence shortly. I feel like I'm in the Matrix and just noticed a glitch to the system because Napoleon Dynamite is definitely coming back to Hoff for this weekend and Wilco is definitely coming back to town in the near future, so I'll get to see them for the second time this year (assuming I can get tickets).
The Pixies show was disappointing, although it was fun. I didn't expect the crowd to be so old. The majority of the people were in their thirties to early fifties from what I was able to see. Makes you realize just how long ago 1987 was. This wasn't a bad thing at all though, I don't mind that type of audience. Our seats were great, on the balcony, but without anybody in front of us, so the sitelines were awesome. The problem was that all three bands play loud guitar rock, which doesn't sound very good at all in a live setting. The guitars get so distorted because of the insane volumes that the bands play at that you can't hear anything very clearly. Parts that were nuanced on the cd are noisy live because they have to be played over so much noise. Lucky for me that I know their entire catalog really well, because if you don't know the song that's being played already you're basically listening to glorified noise. For most of the songs I was unable to tell what key they were playing in. This was the first show I've been to where I was in physical pain (ears) afterwards. Not just crickets chirping, real pain. Serves me right for not bringing earplugs with me. Mainly though, bands (especially guitar bands) need to turn the volume DOWN at shows. People shouldn't pay up to 50 bucks to hear somewhat undecipherable and physically damaging noise. All of this being said, I'm happy that I got a chance to see one of the greatest bands of the last 30 or so years and they did play a great show, apart from the problems described above.
Oh, and the first opening band (The Bennies) was horrible, but it is interesting to note that their lead singer is a wheelchair bound midget. More power to ya.
What a horrible scene in Ohio the other day. Not that I liked Pantera but shit, no one ought to go out like that.
I want to get of the area for a little while over break, no idea of where to go yet. Maybe just follow New Hampshire as far as possible and then see from there.
