"Atmosphere conducive to study"...

It seems as though several of our dormitory members are preparing to submit change of house forms. The incessant chatter is reminiscent of the noise the dungeons endured Thursday evening when they were invaded by those members of our school who believe that it is their God-given right to push ahead of everyone else in any situation where normal persons would wait. I am seriously considering trying my hand at one of the spells I learned this summer on Mitchell Baddock. He and Colby Higgs are doing I know not what to cause Phillipa Renault and her silly friends to emit screams and giggles in turn. There is a time and place for such nonsense (such as three A.M. in the Gryffindor common room). Although I notice Miss Black the elder eyeing them. I shall leave the discipline to the prefects.

Without a doubt, Fridays hold my least favorite schedule. Defence Against the Dark Arts is a ridiculous class. I certainly respect the abilities of our dear Professor Dumbledore, but his opinion that one can truly defend without knowing how to attack is laughable. How will we know what to defend against in the first place if we never see the Dark Arts in action? We are only as strong as our experience.

Incidentally, from my observation of Mr. Avery's conduct on but the first day of class, he has a good deal of said experience. A point to ponder.
