Title: Switch
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Kris/Suho
Summary: Today can be like the past thousand days. But it’s not. (Inseparable-AU)
A/N: WORD VOMIT. Srsly, I wrote this in like 30 minutes. Might be really really confusing. Sorry. T^T Heavily based on Nick White's Inseparable. I couldn't help myself

I.

He wakes up.

Sunlight filters through the window, spreading a soft muted light across the bedroom. It looks like any other day that he’s woken up to.

He breathes deeply.

Cool sheets cover his otherwise bare body, every miniscule movement causing the fabric to flutter on his skin like a caress. He turns his head to his left and the sight that greets him is something he’s seen a hundred times. Soft, pale skin, pink lips, dark lashes.

Today can be like the past thousand days.

But it’s not.

He’s dressed.

Suits cut to his exact measurements have become his uniform. Every Wednesday, he puts on a midnight blue jacket over a crisp white dress shirt.

Everyday, Joonmyun would watch him dress, always stepping lightly behind him as he closes the last button. The smaller male would wrap warm arms around his torso, tiptoe and kiss the nape of his neck. “You look delectable,” he’d whisper.

Today can be like the past thousand days.

But it’s not.

Today he pauses, fingers gripping the lapels of his suit. He considers just staying at home.

“Kris,” Joonmyun says softly. “You’re gonna be late.”

Joonmyun sees him out the door with a radiant smile and a kiss. Just like always.

A car honks and he snaps out of his daze. The light turned green seconds ago. He shifts his shiny Mercedes into gear, driving a few meters before turning left at the sign “Seoul National University Hospital.”

Joonmyun thinks he’s already at work.

The doctor explains it using a standard detached tone he probably uses on every other patient, steady and free of any emotion. Some sympathy would be nice but it doesn’t matter, Kris isn’t listening anymore, ears registering the words as garbled, dull sounds. Instead, he stares at the paper in his hands.

Now he knows.

Today can’t be like the past thousand days.

II.

He’s still in bed when his phone rings, the caller ID displays his brother’s name in bright letters.
He doesn’t want to answer.

But he does.

Kevin…..it’s me….

Kris?

Are you alright?

Yeah, you know me. Never better….

Kevin, I got the results….We need to meet…

He looks across the table and sees his face. His face but not quite. He sees his eyes staring back at him, but other man is sporting a thin beard, hair tumbling past his shoulders. Kris could never stand that much hair on his head, he muses.

So alike, yet so different.

There’s so much to say. But he can’t form the words.

It’s a small relief that he doesn’t need to. He’s never needed a lot of words when it comes to his brother. So it’s not him who speaks.

“If you’re worried about Joonmyun…don’t be…”

That’s all the assurance Kris needs.

Everything’s been arranged. Just in case, Kris reasoned before.

But as he takes off his clothes, his midnight blue jacket, he can’t help but feel nauseated. He’s not just taking off clothes; he’s taking off his entire life, his identity.

He won’t be Kris anymore.

He watches Kevin cut his hair, black locks tumbling onto the floor. Kris has never grown his hair past his ears. He watches him shave next.

Slowly, they turn into each other.

Kris is getting ready to vanish.

III.

Joonmyun perks up when he hears the familiar sound of Kris’ car parking in their driveway. He runs to greet him, opening the front door just as the engine shuts.

“Kris,” he smiles brightly, watching his lover get out of the car. “why are you back so early?”
The tall man walks towards him, silent and brooding.

Their eyes meet.

Joonmyun’s smile falls.

So alike, yet so different.
