Final parts arrived for the new computer today...waiting for a copy of Vista (and i should get a new dvd-rw so both machines have one

Most games do not support Vista at all.

Stick with XP there, doofus.

And Vista is just bad. I hate it for no particular reason. It's all bright and shiny and tries to be user friendly but it's just a royal pain.

i'm prefectly happy with XP, but for gaming and the future, DX10 is Vista only, which is the purpose of this new machine. So...I'm going to play with it. If it sucks, i'll set up a dual boot loader and have it jsut for the stuff i need it for.
