At the Fourth Sin (NFB)

Becky sighed as she headed up the stairs just after curfew, and flipped a lock of hair out of her face. She reached the dark hallway that led to her room, and dug the key to her bedroom out of her pocket with a cursory glance back towards the stairs.

Though she could've sworn nobody had been there a moment ago, there was now a familiar pale face that stood out in the darkness.

"If it isn't the girl with weapons," Angelus said, giving her a friendly smile.

It took Becky approximately 1.5 seconds to flip her switchblade out and hold it out in front of her, dropping back into a natural, defensive posture.

She relaxed only slightly when she realized who it was. "Well, I'm nothing if not aptly named," she smiled. "Thought you skipped town?"

"That was one theory," Angelus stayed where he was, neither frightened nor insulted by the show of strength. "Another is that I didn't."

"Uh huh. What are you doing here?" Becky asked, tilting her head and still smiling, but not lowering the blade.

"Talking to a friend?" Angelus suggested. "Barring that, need a favor."

"A favor?" Becky thought for a second. "Did you kill that girl? I don't actually care if you did. I just need to know if you did and if so, why."

Angelus gave her a long and assessing look. "You wearing a wire?"

Becky rolled her eyes. "No, I'm not wearing a wire. And our surveillance isn't up yet, so no one will hear you but me."

Angelus came forward, his thumbs hooked into his pants pockets. "Then suffice it to say we all do what we need to survive in this crazy, mixed-up game we call life. Or unlife, as the case may be."

"Was she a hit? Was she food? Was she nosy? Or was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time?" Becky replied evenly. "I need more detail than that."

"No, no, yes, yes, and you didn't ask but it was funny," Angelus replied. He shrugged a single shoulder. "Good enough?"

Becky smiled in a decidedly feline way, and flipped the blade shut. "That's just dandy. What do you need?"

"Place to stay," Angelus said. "I've used up my two safe houses. Linger at any of those any longer and even the retards who run this town would be bound to notice."

She snorted derisively. "Ah, so you and I share an admiration for the fine men and women protecting this town." Becky leaned against the wall with her arms crossed, surveying him. "Why stay on the island at all? Can't be too hard to go on the lam somewhere interesting, at least."

"True," Angelus acknowledged. "However there's a certain someone - I don't want to point fingers or name names - but let's just say a certain somebody in this town is all but crying out for my attention. Has made, you might say, a decided effort to catch it. Now it would be rude of me to leave without at least saying goodbye, would it not?"

"Revenge?" Becky asked softly. "Now...there's an idea I can fully support." She bit her lip, and looked at him defiantly. "Why come here, though? You barely know me. What makes you sure I won't go running for the cops?"
