I'm on A Storm of Swords too!! I started it today actually. Game of Thrones was slow because I had seen the show already and there were no surprises, but I ate through Clash of Kings like WOAH. These books are CRAZY.

THEY REALLY ARE CRAZY! :D
Especially the first time when you still get to be surprised. When I bought the first book the cashier at the store (it was at a sf/fantasy themed book store) was like "oh god I'm so jealous right now! I wish I could read these books again for the first time.".
My dad is reading through them really slowly. I don't think high fantasy is really his genre. :/

That's by far the best thing about these books. The moment you think you've got the outcome figured out, BAM someone comes out of the blue and changes the whole game. I also love how you can't help but want all factions to win. If I read Cersei's point of view I feel sorry for her and want the Lannisters to win, if I read Theon's the same, if I read Cat's... etc, etc, etc. I think that's genius.
Hahaha, some people are just not made for fantasy. My dad's been saying for years that he'll read Harry Potter and he finally started it this year but only got to the fourth book. It's funny how he comes up with the all the crazy theories yeaaaaars after we all learned the ending. He's crazy about spoilers too, it's really funny.

Exactly! I love the "what's gonna happen next?! :O" feeling in this series.
Oh, I get so freaking annoyed reading discussions about the books, sometimes. Everyone in the fandom seems to think they know exactly what's going to happen, which makes me wonder if they've been paying attention. Also I hope they're wrong, I don't want the last two books to suddenly be all predictable. :/
And I agree about the rooting-for-everyone thing! I've felt the same way when reading some of Robin Hobb's books (have you read any of her books? Some of them are great. Her best series are actually really similar to ASOIAF), but that's the only other books I can think of where that's happened to me. Usually you have specific people you want to succeed.
My dad is more of a scifi kind of person, I think. :)
lol that's great! XD What's his craziest theory so far?

The closest I've got to that is the Sword of Truth series (from where Legend of the Seeker was born), because it also changes PoV from one character to the other so you also get to see reality through their eyes and "feel" like them. But in the end you know Richard's the lead and that no matter what happens he'll get the upper hand, so while I enjoy the depth of the characters it's not quite the same.
Mmmm... He just finished Goblet of Fire, so right now he's very very surprised with the way Dumbledore handled it all (bossing everyone around, doing what had to be done to get the Order together). I think he thought he was just a crazy old man like everyone said. He's also convinced Snape has been with the Order since the forever (which is only partially true) and he's devastated that Crouch Sr. had to die.

She is very GRRM! Like, imagine if Jon Snow and Arya were blended together into one character, and that character got it's own book series.
That is her Farseer Trilogy.
After Farseer, the next trilogy is Liveship Traders Trilogy, which is multi-POV and you just want everyone to succeed.
Then comes The Tawny Man Trilogy, which follows the same main character as Farseer (the Arya-Jon Snow person).
All three of those trilogies are connected, so it's really a nine books series. :D
And it's very ASOIAF! A bit less disturbing, but still really grim.
She also wrote some other series, some of which bombed due to not being very good. Google reviews before you try anything else of hers, I've bought some of her books and really regretted it.
The Farseer/Liveship/Tawny Man books are amazing, though. One of the few book series to ever make me cry ( ... )

I got stuck with Sword of Truth as well, Faith of the Fallen really pissed me off and haven't got over it yet. Which sucks because I had bought the next three in advance, so I sort of have to read them now. It's sad though, the series was great, I don't know why he had to turn it into a philosophical manifest (a very twisted one at that).
The show's nothing like the books plot wise, but the characters are the same (except maybe Kahlan has an even stronger personality) and it's still pretty fun.

Yeaaaah, Sword of Truth... turned into a kind of train-wreck after a while.
That really sucks that you bought so many books in advance. :(
I've seen some episodes on TV! They really are different than the books. :)
