Countdown.

Jun 01, 2006 23:18

It's been a month since the broadcast of a meteor hitting the earth hit the airwaves, and tonight at 12:37am, the existance of life on Earth shall perish.

Since the news, Debbie Baker dyed her hair and attended a farewell concert performed by the remaining members of Duran Duran. In a small field outside Minneapolis, she wished she would have payed so she could later ask, "Can I get my money back?"

Tom Fleury drove his motorcycle without a helmet from New Jersey to Montana, because, well, he's never been there or known anyone who has.

Timothy Andrews sat on his porch, waving to every car that passed.

Jennifer Carter and her boyfriend, James Nogan, made plans for each day on the calender, but later realized they'd rather just sit inside watching movies and cuddle on the couch. Blockbuster made a promise not to close, but everyone except Bill Johnson quit.

Linda Combs sat on her balcony with tears in her eyes, which wasn't all that different from before the anouncement of the destruction of Earth. She considers jumping, but she's too afraid of heights to step over the edge of the railing.

Terrel Mathews has always wanted to rob a store with no fear of death, and he believes now is his chance. Although he fails to realize that not even store-owners will care if they're shot.

It's a rather nice sunset that evening, and at 7:03pm everyone is looking upward, eyes glazed with fear and excitement. Some wishing it's a joke, some too drunk to care.

Kate Simmons and Johnny Glade just met last week, but they've spent every waking hour having sex. Kate hasn't told Johnny that she has Aids, but she's not sure he'll care.

At 11:18pm, everything is quiet.

Except for the local Blockbuster, where Bill is shot in a struggle with Terrel over the $23.63 in the cash drawer. Though money is of no use, Bill was delirious from working a 53 hour shift.

Terrel, with a sack full of money ($23.63) runs to the parking lot and jumps into a car that just pulled up. Pointing the gun at the driver, a young man by the name of James, tells him to go. Confused, James begins heading back home. They have a nice chat about cars and foreign beer.

Across town, Linda slips on a small wet spot on her balcony. As she realizes she had earlier spilt her lemonade, she finds her body being flung over the edge, a two story plummet.

Johnny has climaxed and slumps next to Kate on the bed, asking for lemonade, but Kate doesn't care.

Tom, who is just passing through, is interrupted in his cross-country mission by a young girl's body hurtling through the air toward him. After a remarkable catch 'n' crash, he finds young Linda in his arms looking at him with big eyes and for a moment he forgets about his wrecked motorcycle, the end of the world, everything. For a few minutes they watch each other in disbelief, and on cue, they kiss lovingly.

As James turns the corner, he sees his neighbor Tim waving at him, and James and his new found friend, Terrel, return the favor. They look back just in time to see a motorcycle slamming through their winshield.

Bill falls into a small percentile, and does, in fact, care that he's been shot.

After getting out the car, Terrel and James see a man and a woman in the road kissing, and decide that perhaps everything will be okay. The sounds of sex coming from the the apartment next to them makes them all laugh.

From across the street a voice yells at them to keep it down. Debbie has a headache from a concert she was at earlier in the day.

Jennifer is worried about James, but decides to call Tim, the nice older man she was sleeping with before the anouncement of the end of the world. She was afraid to break up with James, but after the anouncement, she just didn't care.

For a brief moment there was peace, and with 27 and a half seconds 'til the end of the world, the world was perfect.
