CSI NY: #4.12 - "Happily Never After"

Jan 12, 2008 19:23

We finally have a new episode of CSI: NY, there are 2 more episodes left before we run out of fresh episodes. Aiyeee. This episode was almost completed when the writers went on strike, so the remainder of this and the next 2 episodes (for which scripts were already written) was completed by the show's non-writing producers. It'll be interesting to see how those 2 episodes will turn out. Hmmm.

The writers went down the twisted fairytales route this week, drawing inspiration from The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. The A and B cases were pretty okay, not fantastic, but I enjoyed the episode nonetheless. There was a rare show of continuity when Detective Angell (Jennifer or Jessica? Writers, please decide!) brought up Ruben's death when she was with Danny. And Carmine Giovinazzo is fantastic as always, in that scene.

"A" case - Wizard of Oz:
Fiona Chisholm, owner of the Dorothea Hotel, was found dead; crushed underneath an ice castle sculpture. She had a reputation as the "Wicked Witch of the Upper East Side". As if that wasn't obvious enough, she was wearing red shoes when she died, and she had a dog named Otto. She really wasn't well-liked. People were applauding when they saw her body at the crime scene. Haha.

Quick! How many Oz references can you find in there? *lol*

My darling Flack had the pre-opening credits line tonight: "I guess the question isn't who would wanna kill Fiona Chisholm, but who wouldn't." Whee! I'm still not really used to the remixed theme song though.

SNOW! I miss seeing real snow. Hehe.

It turned out that a food vendor had accidentally killed her by pushing her into a nitrogen tank, where an open nozzle struck her in the chest and causing her heart to freeze. Miss Wicked Witch had pulled his license to sell roasted chestnuts outside her hotel, and he'd confronted her to try and change her mind, but things went wrong.

It is here, in the scene which Flack and Stella arrest the killer that we have one of the funniest Flack scenes in the history of the show. They go to a warehouse-like place where all the food carts are kept, and Flack is absolutely traumatized at the lack of cleanliness and hygiene in the place. The man loves his food, you see, especially those from street-side stalls. Heehee!

Flack: (Horrified expression) This is just wrong. Seriously, no New Yorker should ever see this. Ever.
Stella: Look, you can always put in for psych leave.
Flack: Huh. (He looks around some more and sees a woman sneezing into a cabbage. Ew!)

After talking to the suspect, he realizes he is busted and tries to run away. Super!Flack gives chase, jumping over a fallen metal shelf and doing a roll-and-tumble on the floor. I am pretty sure those moves aren't done by a stunt double. *lol* Anyway, he gets his coat dirty from his little tumble and lets out a disgusted "Arggggh!" and continues to chase the guy.

Stella: (as Flack is cuffing the guy) You okay?
Flack: No, I'm not. (sees a rat on a gunny bag) I don't think I'm ever gonna be the same.

To top it off, he has this "I want my mommy" look on his face. Hahaha. Oh, Flack, how I love you so! His expression makes you wanna grab him into a tight hug and never let go. Hee!

"B" case - Peter Pan:
A girl is found crushed in between a school bus and a taxi. She was dressed in a nightgown with the word "Wendy" finger-painted on her chest. It turns out that she had fallen on top of the school bus, and fell off when the bus driver slammed on the brakes, which made it seem like she "came out of nowhere". During autopsy, it's revealed that she was stabbed by something that resembled a hook, which led to her bleeding to death. Sid also found a mark of a symbol shaped like a fairy; and he made the connection to Peter Pan. He was also seen reading the book when Mac came to the morgue to see him. He claims it's for research, hee! Yeah, and he just happened to be reading Cosmo when he was at the dentist. *lol*

Danny is processing the school bus for evidence when Angell brings up Ruben Sandoval, Danny's neighbor who was killed in "Child's Play". It is a nice exchange between them, not too dramatic, and it shows that Danny is still dealing with it. Unlike a certain other individual with the initials L.M., Danny is professional enough to continue with the job instead of running away. :P

Angell: Danny, I heard about the Sandoval shooting. The kid lived in your building?
Danny: His name was Ruben. Kid was only 10 years old.
Angell: I'm sorry.

Based on the trace evidence found on the girl's body - star-shaped sticker, finger paint, Play Doh (they called it Kiddie Clay) - and after determining the height from which she fell from, they are led to a kindergarten which had signs of a break-in in one of the classrooms, but nothing had been taken. It is the latest in a series of similar break-ins. Mac and Danny eventually find out that someone was organizing fairytale-themed parties and holding them in kindergarten classrooms. The party-goers also consumed a kind of designer drug that makes them go into a childlike-fantasy state.

The victim is a rich girl, whose brother is a high flyer in a brokerage firm. One of his young interns attended the party she was at and took advantage of her while she was under the influence of the drugs. After effects of the drug wore off, she freaked out and threatened to tell her brother what had happened. The intern then grabbed the hook-like thingy and stabbed her with it, finally throwing her out the third floor of the kindergarten where she landed onto the school bus parked below.

The other funny scene of the episode is when Mac catches Adam busting some moves while listening to some music on his earphones. Heehee! And Mac smiled! That doesn't happen a lot, and Adam manages to make him do that, like in "Down the Rabbit Hole".

Mac: That's a nice move. What is this, "Dancing with the Scientist"?

The next episode, "All in the Family", is airing in about 2-3 weeks' time. Juicy Danny scenes galore! I haven't got a chance to watch the promo yet, but thanks to Faylinn's recap, it seems that Rikki goes off the deep end and is about to shoot someone, with Danny trying to talk her out of it. Yikes. *bites nails*
