attn: Miranda

Melou has now spoken with both Mordred and Lucivar, and he's pretty sure that things are, at least for the moment, stable--which means that he must do the most important thing and apologise SO MUCH to Miranda for his brother.

So he goes looking for her, with a great deal of concern on his mournful face.

She is in her room, sitting on the window ledge with the curtains drawn around her as she sometimes does, and so knows that it makes quite a good hiding place. It would make a better one were she a little better at keeping silent. But she is upset, and so can, perhaps, be forgiven.

He comes to her room right away and taps on the door anxiously.

"Ay?" she calls after a moment. "Who is't?"

"Melou, my lady."

Another pause, longer. "What is't, my lord?"

"May--may I speak to thee?"

She stands hesitantly, then goes to the door and pulls it slowly open.

Melou looks in at her woefully, his sad face even more sad for being apologetic. "My lady--"

"Ay?" she prompts, and though she has been crying, she lifts her chin and straightens her shoulders and (though of course Melou could not know it), she holds some trace of her father's imperious pride.

Everything tumbles out in an awkward rush. "My brother--my brother, he doth not understand things as thou and I, he doth not understand how I could love while my father is unavenged, and he doth not understand how we could live without war, and he hath need of me because he hath not got a brother but me, so I lied to him, oh, my lady, forgive me, I lied that he might not be troubled, but I swear to thee it was a lie, for his sake only, and I love thee dearly and truly and I pray thou wilt forgive me--"

"It is well, my lord!" she cries, her pride unable to last long in the face of his distress. "I believe thee."

He reaches for her hands. "I love thee--"

She lets him take them, and holds on tight. "Ay, ay."

Melou hugs her tightly.
