This weekend was unexpectedly incredible. Friday, I met Eric and Neil in Southie, then to Foley's to meet E's friend from college, Julia. She's so great, like everyone I've met who means a lot to him. We talked a lot about writing, since she's an accomplished journalist out in LA and bonded over our unconventional families and inability to find clothes (she's tinier than me at 4'10"!). Her assignment put them up at the Four Seasons, so we ended up there in the wee hours with room service and a bag of beer from the Foley's bartender. Saturday was a little rushed with dinner in the North End then Brendan's going-away party on the Hill, then back to Inman Sq for the party to send Neil off to Chicago. Lots of goodbyes for one night, but as Neil said, it was bittersweet because good things are coming of these moves.
I have to get down to business today with selecting a class for the Fall. I'm trying to determine if I should audit an UG psych course (no record of grades, but only $25 as an alumnae) or jump right in to a Grad course in the Social Work program. It might be daunting, as the psych courses I took are six years behind me. Plus I'd have to figure out how to pay for it because I would only be reimbursed by Children's after semester end.
Maybe I'd have the cash for this sort of thing if I didn't take walks that begin empty-handed and end with 5 pairs of kneesocks and a really unnecessary Diane von Furstenberg dress for Jen's wedding . . . I can't even go to Vegas with Cort and Sharon since I've bought so much over the summer. And I don't know if it's being in a relationship too, but I've definitely tripled my time and money in cabs and in restaurants. And actually, I don't want anything to change. I'd just like to be slightly more capable of self-discipline when it comes to buying sequin shoes or that $50 T-shirt. Of course, I have a feeling I'll be putting that off, since Eric wants me to drive us to the Wrentham outlets for "back to school" shopping at Barney's. He's no help at all.
