honorary mention: Bran, because he is adorable, smart, sweet and kind, but I'm just not invested in his storyline at all. Plus, the Children of the Forest scare me. Theon, whom I only started to like after reading ADWD.
#3 Jaime
©(Just like everyone else) I hated him passionately until I read his first POV chapter, and loved him ever since. He is hilarious, the way he plays his mind games and entertains himself without people noticing, it's like everything is a secret joke to him. He owns up to the stuff he does, but he doesn't even pretend to feel sorry for his actions. He comes across as reckless, because he acts on impulse, without thinking of the bigger picture, which isn't always smart (his attitude when it comes to his and Cersei's relationship, attacking Ned after Tyrion is kidnapped), but it's also his way of showing he cares.
It's refreshing to have a character that understands the game, and the people playing it, but does not want any part in it. He has his flaws, (e.g. he is a shit father) and sometimes I don't get why he does the things he does (like not telling anyone about the Wildfire), but I guess that makes him interesting...?
#3 Lord Snow
©Jon used to annoy me, but I've come to love him during his wildling-storyline. Ygritte and her companions teach him that not everything is black and white. He grown quite a bit during his stay beyond the Wall, and doesn't wallow in self-pity as much as he used to (which used to drive me crazy) after.
I love Lord Commander!Jon, because while he gets what he always wanted, he is also confronted with the fact that it's more complicated than he thought it would be. And every scene with him and Stannis is pure gold.
#3 Robb
©Robb is my favourite and S3 will kill me dead. (Also, Richard Madden is freakishly pretty. Seriously, people should not be allowed to look this gorgeous.)
I just think there is something endearing about him and his journey, he is trying really hard to get it all right, but in the end he is just a boy and not old enough for that much responsibility. His character probably benefits the least from getting aged up on the show, because his arc and flaws work better for a fifteen year old boy than a(n almost) grown man.
His scenes with Bran in A Game of Thrones show that, while he is doing a fairly good job ruling in his father's stead, he really struggles with having that much responsibility. While he later grows into the role, it makes me sympathize with him. Another important thing is that, contrary to Renly or Balon, he does not declare himself king, his banner men do.
They did a good job with him and Cat so far, because while I understand why Catelyn thinks trading Jaime for the girls and making peace is the best solution, I also get that Robb has to focus on more than just his family now that he is responsible for +20.000 men. Sometimes I still wish he had listened to her though. (T_T)
I think the real dilemma is that, not just his enemies, but also his family and supporters don't take him seriously enough on the field/as a commander, even though he turns out to be quite the strategist. (I would've loved to see his attempt to take Coat Molina, because the plan sounded awesome.) While I get why Edmure and Catelyn disobey him (Cat more than Edmure tbh), I doubt they would've done it if it had been Ned, or another more seasoned and respected leader, in his stead. IDK Just to make that clear, I'm not blaming Cat or Edmure (or even Theon) for how things ended for Robb, because he did break his promise to marry that Frey girl. I just think that all of it is not entirely his fault either, because so many different events played into his downfall?
Plus, I think him winning his battles and surprising everyone on the field, but failing because of love/honour is very in tone with the series, and probably IC for a fifteen year old boy who is in love for the first time. Hopefully they won't change too much about his and Jeyne's relationship. I don't like what I've heard so far, even if I think that it's awesome that they're going to show us more of them, and Oona seems to be great.
