I'd suggest getting Eurostar to London, then either a train or coach from there. Depending on time, coaches are often cheaper although they take a little longer. I would imagine it would be about 3 hours from London to Cardiff by coach, and a couple by train. Not sure about Eurostar prices at the weekend, but I would guess that would be your cheapest option. Willing to help you find cheap UK trains etc should you need it!
Am I doing something wrong? Because the Eurostar website is saying a roundtrip from Paris to London is going to be over 400 euros, and I'm pretty sure people back home made out like it was the cheapest mode of travel in existence. Is it because I'm booking the tickets quite late, or are these the prices one should expect and I just misunderstood?
I've just had a look, and that's pretty much what I'm getting as well - I suspect it's because the October half term ends that weekend, so everything's going at holiday prices which, for obvious reasons, are much more expensive.
www.eurolines.co.uk does pretty cheap coaches. Problems: it takes about 8 hours to get to London; it only seems to let you book London-Paris-London. But it's about £17.50 each way, so it might be worth investigating (and getting a return of which you don't use half...)
