I was shocked, too. And, now, to hear that he actually pulled the barb out before losing consciousness...
A really good friend of mine is a ranger on Kangaroo Island off the coast of Adelaide, ad he and Steve were good friends. When I was down there, Steve had come down to Kangaroo Island and I had the opportunity to meet him - he was a blast, and was showing me things that Craig, (my friend) wouldn't touch (like handling one of the most deadly snakes down there.) It was fascinating to watch him work, and I will really miss him!
very very sad. i cried last night when i heard the news. i know some people think he was odd or not very bright, but i always admired him for what he believed in and stood by. my heart goes out to his wife and 2 kids...i cannot imagine what it would be like to lose a soul mate...
I never thought he was odd, but then again, I handled Mohave Green Rattlers before I knew how deadly they were! I thought they were the same as a regular diamond back. Plus, I had an alligator in my office and always let him out when I was there, so I didn't think handling the animals was strange...
