1. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli
My first degree’s in Political Science. Enough said.
2. The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett
One of the greatest historical novelists of the 20th century, her characters stride across the pages of history as if they really did live. Francis Crawford has owned and inspired me for a long, long time. King Hereafter, her book about Macbeth, is fabulous too, as is her Niccolo series.
3. The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy
One of my favourite heroes.
4. Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
I’ve never wanted to grow up! Tee hee!
5. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
Because I love words, and he pushed the boundaries of the English language.
And for some reason, I can never make these things pretty! Oh, well!!!
