The life of a woman physicist

Mar 12, 2005 14:09

Today my professor, the only woman in the department, had all of us physics girls over for lunch and a discussion about our futures as women in physics. It was a very sobering talk. Being raised in today's world, the obstacles that I was destined to face were never acknowledged. Instead, we were all taught and drilled that we were no different then men. That we were strong and could do anything we wanted to. That just left me confused and alone feeling when I did face those gender difference problems but didn't know how to deal with them or if any one else was going through the same thing. Sometimes you just have to recognize the truth so that you can get past the problem instead of just pushing it away like it wasn't there.
