I have a bunch of work to do this evening (long story), but it's just as well because Boyfriend does, too, and we're mutually relieved that his friend who was trying to get us to go see Mad Max tonight had to cancel
( ... )
Watching Thrones and Outlander the same night this week brought me DOWN. I haven't given up on Thrones (I'm much too invested), but it really is something how Outlander handles the sexual abuse situation so much differently. I agree, it's getting SO old on GoT.
Mad Max looks rad. I may drag my lazy ass out of the apartment to see it, once I know I'm not carrying pests everywhere with me.
After the emotional roller coaster mess I went through with Age of Ultron, I just want some action ladies who are actually kicking ass and aren't made to say stupid things.
With GoT...that scene with Sansa was actually tamer than what happened in the books (albeit to a different character), so I was relieved in that sense and had pretty much expected the general progression of things, given how she's replaced Jeyne Pool from the books for this arc already. But it's just getting rote at this point, and it's not getting balanced out with, you know, anything but gratuitous boobs everywhere. Outlander shows all the same body parts but makes them incidental (because people happen to be unclothed when they're bathing or having sex) and the camera doesn't linger for shock effect. They're telling a story that happens to include sex and violence, they're not here to titillate for its own sake, you know? And there's a difference.
I'm with you - I was expecting a lot more from that scene based on what people were saying, so I don't think I am as traumatized as some people. That being said, I still did not like it.
Nope. They could be showing a lot of the same things with a lot less backlash if they actually thought about what they were showing and WHY. But they don't seem to, and it's exhausting.
