I'm about 4 months into my almost year-long Round-the-World(ish) trip and it's been an adventure, for sure! We're taking time to relax (and unpack!) in Brasil until mid-February and already there are things that I will greatly miss about this beautiful country!
The FOOD: If I could live off of tapioca and fried cheese, I would. It's the greatest thing that has ever happened to breakfast times! (PS - Tapioca is totally different than the tapioca in the States. It's a crepe-like pancake that's made with manioc [tapioca] flour. It's kind of rubbery, but I'm in love with it.) Also, getting used to the main meal being lunch, instead of dinner, took a while...but I like it now; it makes sense. And, they eat cake for dinner...that's actually a thing. And avocados are a "sweet" food - like, it's in ice cream, it's not a savory food here. Also, fried cheese at the beach...they fry it on coals right in front of you and top it with herbs. I JUST CAN NOT GET ENOUGH OF THE FRIED CHEESE! I could seriously talk about the food in Brasil forever - it's delicious!
I started a blog/vlog, so if you are my LJ friend, you can go to my homepage and see the link to that. If we aren't friends, why not? Let's be friends.
It's been absolutely amazing! We spent NYE in Rio and...I literally have no words for how incredible it was! I still can't believe that this is my life right now!
We head to South Africa for a month next. Then, Dubai, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, (possibly Portugal and Morocco), Netherlands, and then back to Seattle! We just finished planning Europe, and it's still not concrete yet. We had to cut some countries out, which was SO HARD, but we'll see what we can do. :)
NYE in Rio must have been the party of a lifetime.
That sounds like a DREAM. You are hitting so many places I've always wanted to go! If you get a chance to hang in Bulgaria between Turkey and Greece you definitely should...I went there for work last Aug and it was lovely (both the city of Sofia and the people). And also very inexpensive. The Czech Rep and Ireland and very, very high on my bucket list. You must be having the time of your life. :)
Also, Seattle is my favorite city in the US outside of the one that I live in (Detroit).
I will definitely keep Bulgaria in mind! Originally, we had talked about road tripping from Turkey to Czech Republic and beyond, but sadly I don't think that's the plan anymore. We might have some wiggle room in our schedule, though!
Seattle is amazing! I've lived there my entire life (well, I grew up outside the actual city, but, like half an hour away and then moved INTO the city as an adult) and I love it!
Seattle IS amazing. And also has some of the best food I've ever had in any city. I would never get tired of going out to eat there if I had unlimited funds to do so.
WOW! You are so lucky. What an amazing trip. I know you're working at the same time, but even that sounds really cool if you're good friends with this family!
