Welcome back to my blog! Did you miss me? I know I haven't updated in a while, but I've been busy with end-of-the-semester stuff.
What stuff, you ask? Well, for starters, between Easter and now, I have been plowing away at my final semester projects. My panel presentation on the Visual Artists' Rights Act (VARA) of 1990 rocked, impressing the class and the instructor. The following week, I had a 10 page paper due in the same class. That paper was somewhat difficult because I couldn't find some things within my original scope (how museums deal with old loans in Texas versus in New Jersey). I ended up changing my focus to just New Jersey museums, discussing statutes and case law they can rely on. Yesterday, I turned in my final 18-page paper in my other class. I'm not sure how I managed to get to 18 pages; I think using Verdana font helped. ;-)
In the meantime, I also attended two days of a three-day conference called "Defining Culture through Dress" at Hofstra University (on Long Island), which takes 2 or so hours from where I live in New Jersey. Which means, on last Thursday and Saturday, I woke up at 5:00 a.m. to catch an early train to make it to Hempstead, NY by 9:00 a.m. (Does this mean I'm dedicated?) The conference was good; I attended some interesting panels and presentations, although I missed the REALLY interesting topics on Friday. I also went out twice last week, once to celebrate Mark's exhibit opening. So, let's just say that the past week has been early days and late nights.
But I don't really have any sort of down time, I've realized. While classes are fading away, I will continue to work and to be an intern until I leave for Paris. I also have to plow through my exhibit planning. By May 8th, Tova and I will have a definitive list of any and all objects we can use. Then, we have to actually plan and design the exhibit! (The exhibit opens September 10th -- mark your calendars!)
My summer is also jam packed. I leave for Paris on May 17th. During the 8 days in Paris, my class is going to hit all the major museums in the city, from the Louvre to the Centre Pompidou to the new Musee Quai Branly. Then, I'll spend a few days in Bern with Anna and Aaron. Once I return to the U.S., I have an online class, Legal Issues, which is required for my track, in June. Simultaneously, I also intern at The Costume Institute's library until the end of July at which time I start work again.
Whew! That's a lot of information to cover in just one post . . . perhaps I should post more often so that I can avoid the long, drawn out post. That's a thought.
