I'm adjusting back to life in New Jersey after a wonderful vacation in Texas. It was so good to see and spend time with everyone. I also had fun with my family in Corpus and with my adopted/entended family in Big Bend National Park. (Hiking through snow in Texas?!? Who would have thought!?)
But, as soon as I returned, I hit the ground running.
I started my internship at The Morgan Library & Museum (
www.morganlibrary.org) on Monday. I'll be working on a special project, updating their database with past outgoing loan information, two days a week. While the internship is unpaid, it will look awesome on my resume and will allow me to network and to make connections within the museum field. The people there are really nice; I think it's a good fit. I enjoy walking the six blocks from Penn Station (below Madison Square Garden) to the museum -- lots of interesting clothing shops to satisfy my window-shopping urge.
I continue to work on campus at my Graduate Assistantship with PC Support Services. I'm working 20 hours a week, mostly during the days, which makes me happy. Unfortunately, it means a lot of early mornings. But that's okay. . . at least I get to bed at a decent hour!
Classes will be interesting, I think, this semester. I haven't yet had one class (Anatomy of a Museum) -- it's first meeting was cancelled. But I think I'll enjoy it. Museum Registration II will also be good. Within groups, we each have to prepare a panel presentation for the class. My group is doing legal issues, but more than likely need to narrow that down even further for our individual 10 minutes. We also do a research paper (10 - 12 pages, not bad) about relavant issues. (I need to start thinking about those two topics . . .) My third class is Producing an Exhibition for which I'll co-curate an exhibition on religious garments entitled "The Beauty of Sacred Garments." We started working on it at the end of last semester. Everyone is encouraged to come visit when we open next Fall (sometime in September)!
The weather is starting to get colder. While this week has been relatively mild (40s to 30s), next week is when the "Artic Cold" blows in! Think of me walking to the train station on Monday and Wednesday mornings!
