Update from NJ

I've made it another month . . . I can't believe it is already October. And it's starting to feel like it too: the air is brisk, the leaves are starting to change color, and everyone around is getting sick!

School is going fabulously (I think). My classes are very interesting and I'm doing pretty well in them (so far all A's!). I'm keeping up with the weekly work, but I'm starting to get a little worried about the semester projects (2 20-page papers!). And then there's the internship and the thesis to start thinking about! The instructors are very cool. Petra, the director of the program, is so flighty sometimes, but she does know her stuff. Jurgen is German and very fun to have discussions with. (He joked one class about Internet art that "We aren't getting anywhere!" -- none of us knew whether to take him seriously or not!) And I'm getting to know my classmates. We had a "social event" last week at a local bar/pub. I only stayed for about an hour but ended up chatting almost the entire time about the City. I'm hoping more events can be planned in the future.

Work is pretty stressful without my boss Amy around. (She is currently getting married; I mean, she's walking down the aisle today!) She's already been out of the office for a week and she'll be gone for at least one more. Whenever I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it all, something new comes my way! But everyone seems willing to teach me the ropes, which I appreciate. I just hope our stressed-out customers can have that much patience!

You know what my favorite part of October is? My birthday!! And it turns out Marissa's is just two days after mine! Our house is goin' to be a-rockin'!! Of course, with birthdays, it means you are becoming older, if not wiser. I don't know which category I fall into.

I've been really homesick recently. I miss all of my friends, family, and Charlie dog in Texas. Things are just so different up here in the Garden State. I think with the culture shock and the homesickness, I really got bummed. But I've a turned a corner, so to speak, and I'm currently doing better. I have several things to look forward to, like Matt's visit and Celebrity Jeopardy. (Marissa got tickets for Sunday night!)

My mom's been trying to keep me fat, I think; every care-package I get from her contains a couple of dozen chocolate chip cookies. Now that I have FINALLY gotten my financial aid, I signed up for Netflix. I can now finish the AFI Top 100 list that Matt and I never did. And I can get my fix of Project Runway now that Season 3 is almost over. (Who do you think will win and who will be Auf'd?)

I'm going home to CC for Thanksgiving. My dad bought my ticket Wednesday night. I'll have a little over 3 days to spend with my whole family and the dogs!! MMM . . . fried turkey and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. . . Let me know if you are going to be in the Corpus area - I would love to get together!
