A YEAR OF FIC '07

Notes: Hopefully I'll make time to do this again next year. Basically just a reflection on all the fic that I wrote this year.

Algebra (KH, OT3)

-I like that this story is all about making Riku and Kairi equal in Sora’s eyes. Also, his mom acceptance in the end is nice. I would hope that his mother would be able to accept him loving two people equally. It reads like so much of a prelude to the future.

Across the Stars (StH, SallySonic)

-I enjoy my repetition of “and he forgets”, because he makes it right in the end - he can forget forgetting and make it all anew. Also, I’m not sure if ‘the sting’ is obvious, but it’s the slap she gave him. I kind of wish I’d left that out or made it more clear, but ah well. Sonic correcting himself for almost calling Sally ‘Sal’ is ridiculously sad. I think they’ve kind of resolved things in the comic maybe, but since I don’t follow the Archie comic (and never will) I’m not sure. In any case SonSal > all other StH ships.

White Whale (Naruto, NaruSaku/Sasusaku)

-I adore Naruto as a character. He’s loyal and brave and strong, but I don’t think he’s gonna win Sakura. He’s well on his way to getting everything that he wants. Just not Sakura. Also, does anyone miss the old Sakura? I do. I like new Sakura and how she’s grown stronger, but I also miss old Sakura who was strongest when she was weak. I think Sakura lost something when Sasuke left. Something that gave her passion. I hope she finds it. And I hope that Naruto gets a happy ending.

Who You’ll Be (A:tLA, Zuko)

-I love Earth Mother. Fancharacter though she may be, she is still the most charming lady in the series. My favourite part is that even though Zuko can tell she’s fire nation, he still feels uneasy around her. Also there is a bit of Zutara in there! One single line! How a pretty girl doesn’t quite hate him! I don’t like Zutara much in a canon sense, but it’s good for fanfic. Also, there’s no Mai mentionings because I wrote this before season 3.

How to Save a Life (A:tLA, Jet/OC)

-I should try writing Avatar fanfic that isn’t drowning in original characters. However, I like weaving Shana and Earth Mother’s tale through the Avatar storyline, so there. I’d say this story is less about the canon characters and a lot more about Shana and her development. She’s a bitch with a good heart and is not very good at handling her emotions.

Aftermath (A:tLA, Zuko and OC)

-I hope that Zuko ends up hating the Gaang. And Iroh a little. And his sister and his father. I hope he hates everyone who ever demanded anything of him. There was always someone telling him who he was that he never really had the chance to decide for himself. Zuko’s a good guy, but I doubt he’d be fun to have lunch with. Poor Shana.

Demons in Our Mist (BANDKIDZ, Dan and Alyssa)

-My favourite part is Dan admitting that I’m the one who’s the best at surviving. Though, it’s only true, because the whole adventure is my fault and all the bad guys are villains that I have created. Also, I’m not sure if Aarorn really is the most badass evil doer I’ve created, but he is the oldest and probably the one that would know me best.

Batteries (BANDKIDZ, Dan and Sami)

-Ah, silliness. Dan’s a good leader, except when he’s a tard. Dan hardly ever has real life blond moments, but I think there should be more of them in his life.

Still (BANDKIDZ, Full Cast)

-I feel like I shouldn’t like this story as much as I do. Bankidz is a ridiculous idea that is never going anywhere, but that I like to pretend is really awesome. I don’t like the overly emotional bits, because I hate looking back at my sappiness, but I like all the throwbacks to my various stories. And also, I do love my band babies and the little references to last year. Tres cute.

Where Do We Go From Here? (Spawnverse, Bee and Lee)

-I really like the little snippets into the spawnverse. Moments of time between characters that aren’t really all that important, but really show the connections between each of them. I also like working with the parents, because I’m a self-centered egotist. I dislike the end of this though, and have been realizing that I hardly ever end things right anymore.

Things We Lack (Spawnverse, Tai and Lee)

-I hate the ending. I like the idea and the line of ‘Humble Me’ that it comes from. Also, I have a tendency to make Lee do really domestic-like things when in the same story with Tai.

On Regrets (Spawnverse, Newt/Anna)

-I love this story because there’s this truly despairing air about the whole thing. It’s like you know right away that nothing’s going to turn out okay, that the whole thing is doomed. And it’s pretty much true. The whole 4th book of the spawnverse is sad. It’s got a lot of broken relationships and a particularly ruthless villain. The characterization in this story is top notch. Pear and Posie are really spot on. Pear’s knowing, caring, but jaded nature. And Posie’s worry and kindness. I also like the irony of Newt’s worst fear being himself if he had actually won.

Knows Best (Spawnverse, Miles and Lee)

-I love the idea of a backwards mystery. Also, Lee is not a villain! Honest! I wish I would have made it more clear that Miles inherited her paranoia. This piece is good for the simple fact that it really gets into the characters. Mile, Pear and Reese really shine through and show how each is different from the other. Also, I’m proud of how they all relate to Lee in their own ways.

2+2=5 (except when it doesn’t…) (Spawnverse, Newt/Anna)

-I do enjoy this story. However, I feel that maybe I get too random sometimes. Also, it could really use a rewrite. The truth is that I actually wrote this in 2006, but only posted it recently. Thus, it’s kind of old and I think it shows. I do like how she continuously corrects him when he calls her ‘girl’ or ‘wretch’. Anna she is.

Upon Release (Fireside Tales, Tass/Ellie)

-Ellie and Tass is a tragic love story. There’s no plot to their tale. There are bits of canon, but no actual storyline that they follow. Thus, they can do pretty much anything they want. And their story can end in many different ways. I love the bit where she only feels leather and that’s when she feels truly alone. There’s some technical problems in this story (verb tenses y/n?), but over all I’m still proud of it, despite its age.

Cyclical (Fireside Tales, Tass/Ellie/Rudge)

-Why does Ellie sleep with Rudge? I think it’s because she loves Tass and because probably she doesn’t think she can have him. And because Rudge looks like him a little and it’s really sad. But I don’t like the ending. I’d say that this whole story doesn’t really happen. Except that maybe Ellie does sleep with Rudge and maybe Tass hates himself a lot.

In Threes (Ternion, Nor and Mina)

-I think I did an awesome job with this one. Honestly, I love it. I love the bit about Nor’s name meaning nothing in the end. Also, Mina’s connection to Nor is brilliant here. Nor obviously means a lot more to Mina than Mina seems to mean to Nor. The only thing I’d really change would be to extend the scene where Mina tries to set Nor up. I almost made Mina find a bleeding Nor, but couldn’t imagine Nor committing suicide and how else would she be bleeding, really? Also, there’s something in Mina that REALLY reminds me of Sarah in that last scene when Nor starts petting her.
