She gently slips her hand into his and smiles at him. Hero raises an eyebrow and cocks his head to the side.
“Cherry?”
She doesn’t answer, only squeezes his hand a bit as she reaches out with the other to brush a few strands of blond hair out of his face.
“Cherry...” He whispers as he closes his eyes.
“You’re dying.” She says finally.
He smiles just like always. Large and uninhibited. He is so much lighter than she’ll ever be.
“Someone can revive you...right?” She asks even though she knows the answer. Its a cutscene. She realizes and it hurts.
“N-no.”
“But they have to! You’re the hero. You’re what binds us together. We need you. I need you!” Her shoulders begin to shake as tears begin leaking down her cheeks.
“Don’t cry, Cherry!” Hero pleads, but Cherry can’t stop.
“Hero...” She sobs as she throws herself across his body. “This whole world is. so. stupid! We fight and we die and we’re revived, but then these stupid other times happen where no one can be saved and it sucks. I hate this, Hero....I hate these rules. I don’t understand them and I never will and they’re so entirely useless!”
She grinds her teeth and clenches her fist.
“Cherry.” She hears him say her name and its much too weak and she hates it.
“No.” She mutters.
“Cherry, what are you -?” Diane asks from somewhere behind them. Cherry ignores her as she pushes herself off the ground and whirls back on Galgarion.
“You. Will. Fix. This.” She demands. The masked man blushes for a moment before sneering.
“Why should I?”
She is in front of him in an instant, arrow held against his throat like a dagger. She growls.
“Because I’ll kill you if you don’t.”
“Don’t be stupid.” He whispers to her almost...sadly. “What makes you think I can do anything about your idiot friend? I’m bound to the laws of this universe as well.”
And then it hits her.
“But maybe...Maybe I am not.”
Cherry turns to Diane.
“Give me your staff.”
“Cherry, what are you going to do? This is a cutscene. We can’t change anything. This is how it has to be. I know you don’t get it, but this is just the way things are and it’s impossible to change -”
“Enough.” Cherry interrupts. “Just give me the staff.”
Diane sighs heavily and hands the weapon to Cherry.
“Don’t do anything stupid.”
Cherry nods and walks back to the hero. His breathing is labored and his whole body is shaking.
“I’m going to heal you now.” She whispers.
“Y-you...can’t. It’s...a - a...cutscene, Cherry.” He says gently.
“There’s no such thing.” She says with a laugh. “There’s no such thing as cutscenes or battle systems and our lives are not based on floating points. If we can heal ourselves during a battle than it follows that we should also be able to heal at other times as well. I refuse to believe in a world ruled by numbers and forced dialogues. From here on out, we will form our own rules. I’m going to heal you, Hero. That’s all there is to it.”
And so she does.
a/n: This is lame. I know it is. But I sat down and it came out so I said: 'Okay, whatever.'
Just enjoy.
