This is my first lj post. (Well technically its my second, my first having been deleted when the internet decided to disconnect me because I tried to scroll up. I knew there was a reason why I don't like computers! If they were obliging and well mannered perhaps we'd get along, but seeing as though they are determined to make my interaction with them as miserable as possible, i guess we will continue to wallow in mutual dislike. There is some irony in all this considering that i am using one in order to post this, but, well, I guess I can stand to be a bit hypocritical).
Kat created this account for me and i vowed that i would never use it, but isolation does strange things to people. I miss everyone, especially kat and ali. Its been really fun though, just a bit hectic. We have so many things to fit in that we havnt really slowed down. I didn't realise that being a tourist is such hard work! We've done the usual stuff, the Opera House, Botanical Gardens, bridge, Taronga and Manly. We've visited a heap of museums and galleries and historic things. Our cousin Adrien took us canyoning in the Blue Mountains. It was really beautiful, at least I get the impression that it was. Mostly it was green and brown and blurry cos i didn't have my glasses on. To get in to the canyon we had to walk down a steep slope for about half an hour and then (after we got in to our wetsuits) we jumped 5 meters over the edge into a pool at the start of the canyon. We swam/walked/climbed down the length of the canyon and then did the whole thing in reverse going back. There was this group of uber-buff people doing it at the same time, and they were covered in all this climbing hardware, helmets and all. Then there was our group. 2 fit people, 4 unfit people, 2 kids, and 2 yellow and purple lilo mattresses. They probably felt a bit silly, but to their credit, they were less flabby.
We had a pretty low key day today. I walked to koorong to see if it was better than the perth one, and it did have a greater range of books but it wasn't as big as i thought it would be. Still very cool though. I detoured via a little church cemetary on the way back, and found the graves of some first-fleeters. I even found the wife of Sir Henry Parkes! A little slice of history in the most unlikely place.
On a random tangent, i've had very vivid dreams almost every night i've been away. I've started talking in my sleep and waking up and saying stuff before I realise that I'm not dreaming anymore. And I'm dreaming of school most nights. Mainly MLC, but last night it was Prac (my primary school). The weirdest dream i can remember having was one where I had a conversation with a telepathic anaconda that was living in a ballroom chandelier. I spoke some of my part of the conversation out loud, then woke up and sat bolt upright in bed when the anaconda dropped from the chandelier and tried to eat my head. Goodness knows what I have to say to an anaconda. They're renowned for their ability to eat a pig whole, not for their conversation.
i think we're doing paddy's markets and the northern beaches tomorrow. Fun for the whole family, literally!
