I began a Jem & the Holograms marathon last night. I've watched something like 10 episodes since last night. I tell you, I sure loved that show when I was a kid. I distinctly remember asking my dad if I could get a saxophone, because
Jetta from the Misfits played one. And I'm sure you can't forget the phase I had in high school making sites and graphics and buying dolls and other endless merch digging in celebration of the show. And the cough,
community I founded.
I have the first two boxsets so I thought I'd start them up again, to go hand-in-hand with my dying hair metal phase. I do have some complaints, though. Some things are better left in the past, perhaps.
1. The animation is so bad. Not to mention the graphics within the boxsets. You'd think for what I paid for the damned things, it would come in a more convenient packaging, or simply something that makes you go OOOOOOHH.
2. The Misfits truly were wretched, horrible bitches. For the stunts they have pulled for their own selfish desire to be the best girl band of the 80s, you'd think Jerrica would have ordered a bloody restraining order against them. What high drama!
3. The vocal acting is totally laughable. Jerrica's bloody house burned to the ground, and all Rio had to say in a happy voice was "Gonna be oooooookay." Don't even get me started on Sean's English accent.
4. Rio, man, what a two-timing dickhead! He's with Jerrica, but he visibly kisses Jem in front of everyone. Sure there are people that know Jem's identity, but that's only three people on the whole planet. Does no one find this weird? Not very professional for a band's manager, is it?
5. Jerrica has issues, obviously. She's stuck in this identity crisis when she just could have been like, "Hey everyone, I'm Jerrica, but check out my cool stage clothes! I'm a hot mama! Rio, come and dig me!" Again, high drama.
6. Is it maybe a little too convenient that Shana fell for that hot shot producer?
7. Are The Misfits sucking Eric's dick for him to go through that much trouble for them?
This quote was priceless though.
Rio: You're not like Jem. You're warm and comfortable and easy to be with.
Jerrica: You make me sound like an old pair of shoes.
Rio: I'll fix that. [kisses her]
What a stud with purple hair! Adult perspectives on childhood visions. Here's a grain of salt to go along with it, friends :) I can't wait to get to the part where
Kimber and Stormer collaborate. And just plain seeing Jetta again!
