Jermaine Stewart's We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off
it's ok to hate me for it.
One of my friends posted it to her Facebook today. And it stayed with me all day. Though I did temporarily replace it with some Prince because I thinking about it. It would awesome if Prince did a cover of it. It would also probably confuse everyone because it's the antithesis of a Prince song. I think about weird things.
I actually like it. It's catchy and light hearted. I have mild objections to the line telling to the girl to have some class. But it doesn't bother me as much as it could. And frankly, you don't have to assume the person being addressed is a girl, it's not specified at all. I haven't found a direct mention of Jermaine's sexuality on a reliable site*, but it's generally thought that he was gay, and (as pointed out on another site) this song came out in 86 when the AIDS epidemic was full blown. A time when casual sex was very dangerous. So he may have been trying to encourage safer behaviors.
I'd like to point out that I don't care what his sexuality was. It's just interesting when you look at the song.
*If he was, apparently, the word never properly got out.

Is it important enough to me that I should make it my second song? Nope. Did it anyway because it was in my head all day. And I thought it should be in yours.
A word on blog formatting: I'm not planning on writing everyday. And some days I may write twice a day (like today). I plan to keep to my themes, but I'm sure there will be times when other topics pop up on the wrong day.
