One year later...

... and some things have changed, though few for the better, and some things are just as they are.

I am now the primary point-of-contact for 3 high-visibility enterprise-wide projects, having gained another from yet another departing colleague.  The two projects that I mentioned a year ago remain, and are increasing in strength.

The shift from a mixed business model to one of primarily advertising has had some success, but is still second to dial-up.

The status of my former office mate is the same as it was then.  I know she is trying her best, but as the economy turns from bad to worse, I fear that she will be forced to move to another market in search for work.

I will try to answer the questions I posed a year ago...

Has it worked out?  Personally, I am making it work; in the larger scheme of things, I think it's slipping a bit.
Am I betting the farm on it? No, but as everyone without work is discovering, it is challenging to find new work.

I will reiterate what I had said then:

For those reading this that know those affected by this, help them out.
For those who are the affected, my thoughts are always with you.
