Dear math teachers,

Sep 28, 2011 15:37

showing your students needlessly complicated equations will only tell them that math is, well, needlessly complicated. It’ll not train their ability to do actual math. They’ll slip up more often and think they haven’t understood the rules. They’re unable to spot their mistakes - forgetting to draw the vertical line to make a plus out of minus when in a hurry, copying the wrong number because there are too many of them, putting the wrong numbers together because there are too many of them … etc.

So please, math teachers: Show your students that you can make things prettier with math. And also show them that you do not, in fact, need to waste 1/2 of the rain forest to reach that goal.

No love,

a student
