Kissing boys =/= mature content
Stupid question, maybe more of a rant, but why would anyone want to put the R rating up for every of his/her fics? I can kind of see that working for a longer story where eventually there will be some smexing just not yet or in that particular chapter -- a one-shot, on the other hand, with just some drama and kisses mentioned in dialog? Ugh. That's not R, that's PG-13 or something. Stop rating fics R and NC-17/M just because it's about two boys. We have sex pollen, crossdressing, tentacles, and a self-lubricating anus is just about as normal as surprise buttsex which causes an offspring to appear nine months later (in case the author knows at least that much -- and that is rare).
And, just so you know, I wouldn't even say that MPREG requires a higher rating than PG-13 unless we're seeing actual sex or the delivery. Same goes for any of the other things I mentioned above.
Really, there are not many things requiring an instant mature rating. Off the top of my head ... er. Uhm. Nothing. Really, nothing. Depends entirely on how graphic it is depicted. If I wrote, "Then the pink, slimy tentacle slid around his waist and pressed its suckers against his belly, the tip slowly wandering between his spread legs.", and stopped there that'd be a PG-13 for me.
Oh, and now I really want to read some tentacle-y fic. *lol*
Writing about all this makes me want to announce that, though I do like my tentacle gender-bender crossdressing surprise buttsex, the drabble challenge's main theme is now Fluff. Beware, your teeth will be sugar-coated soon.
