Istanbul is an incredible city and should not be missed!
Also, just from personal experience, I would really suggest packing as light as you can and then just washing your clothes frequently. If you need to, you can always buy stuff there, but overpacking is a huge hassle.
Yeah, I reaaaallllyyyyy want to go to Istanbul... but I was just on the travel.state.gov site, and they make it sound unsafe.. but I can't die without seeing it at least once
i don't think so. in the two months i was there, i really never felt unsafe at all. and as a general rule, they're a culture that really respects and welcomes foreign visitors. (i had my classmates buying me dinner and my grocer taking me out to tea and hookah.) maybe if you go to certain rural parts of the country it's less safe to travel as a woman, but istanbul in general always seemed perfectly fine to me. just use basic common sense, as with anything else. the only thing that's unsafe are the drivers (they're nuts!)
so on the first matter, i agree with mimi--packing light is definitely the way to go. shipping is really expensive, and in situations like stopping over in a city for only a few hours and wanting to check it out, having a lot of stuff really sucks.
also yesss Vienna and Ireland! Vienna is awesome and beautiful bikeridepicnicdanceallnightflowers4amkebabstand perfection.
and i know Ireland seems a bit out of the way, but ryanair (the big supercheap airline in europe) is centered there, so you can access it for pretty cheap from most big mainland cities.
ahh haha superlong comment, but also! i think as of mid-July i will definitely be somewhere in Europe, so let's play!
