I'm backing up a bit and reworking the UI for the
cell phone Chess Club interface:
The new design stems from several observations:
- The app is no longer full-screen; instead, you can see the normal status bar at the top. This is where the phone shows the time, connectivity information, email notifications and so on; most apps leave it visible. I had originally decided to use a larger board, but I (and apparently others) miss the status bar at the top.
- I've discarded the wood motif, and am using a simple scheme of blues instead. This is a divergence from my other chess client, but is more in keeping with the cell phone's other applications.
- I'm throwing away support for a lot of normal chess club features, and trying to focus on just four: playing games, watching the grandmasters play, attending lectures and solving chess puzzles. This choice really simplifies the UI a lot, which hopefully will give the application broader appeal.
