Not just in the ordinary ways, either, like being able to buy food and healthcare and feeling self-esteem and not going stir-crazy. Most of my jobs have taught me widely-applicable life skills; current job at Coffee of Annihilation is no different. (And no, I'm not talking about knowing how to grind coffee for different kinds of coffee makers.)
This morning when my alarm went off, I made a to-do list in my head:
-Take a shower
-Get dressed
-Put the dirty clothes in the washer
-Put the clean clothes away
-Sweep and mop the entryways
-Put the wet clothes in the dryer
-Do the dishes
-Prepare scones, put in oven
-Sweep and mop the kitchen
-Put away clean clothes
-Take scones out of oven
-Eat scone and other breakfast
-Practice violin
-Play Sims or read
-Go to work
I'm taking a break before violin practice to post here, because, DUDE, I have learned how to sort chores by where they have stopping points and what components they need (in this case, water pressure). It's not a skill I had before. Also, I have learned how to turn distractions off and just do whatever's next. It's... a lot like playing Sims, actually. Living my real life has many of the traits of playing video games. It sits in the same time-filling headspace, and I feel good when I meet goals. Of course, it only works when I'm alone. On the other hand, I tend to be alone Monday through Wednesday in the daytime.
Okay, this scone is tasty but I should really have more calories and nutrition in my breakfast.
