So, Sarah has been doing some research about gay rights in Louisiana, or should I say the lack there of. She wants to try and start a movement or something. Anyway she found something interestingly sicking, in the state of Louisiana there is no law about discrimination against a homosexual applying for a job. So if someone is applying for a job it is completely legal for the employer to not hire them if they are gay. WTF Louisiana!?! I didn't know this. It used to be a part of the Equal Opportunity Employment Act until 2008 when they took it out. So, if my boss at Walmart is homophobic and finds out I am gay he can legally fire me for it. This isn't scary at all. Lucky for me the manager at the store I work at isn't homophobic, there are several homosexuals working at my store and I was told that he himself is a homosexual. I mean I knew that Louisiana, as a whole, is opposed to gay marriage and gay rights but this is severe. I am so disgusted with this state it isn't funny. Here in Louisiana we can't get married, have a civil union, domestic partnership, adopt, or have job security. We have NO rights. I knew it was bad here but I had no idea just how bad. In order for a gay couple to adopt the one adopting has to sign papers saying they are single, they also have to be investigated to make sure they are not in a relationship. Then if, and that is a big IF, they are allowed to adopt only one of the parents can be the legal parent. It's so effed up.
I'm not sure where to start but I want to try and make a difference too. Maybe we'll ask the pastor at the church we go to. We attend Metropolitan Community Church of Baton Rouge. It is a gay friendly church.
