My weekend of testing for the SGPD is over. I must say that it was all pretty fun. . .reminded me a lot of when I made it on the Little League Allstar team. There were about 50 people that had their applications accepted. About a third of those were cut out for not passing the PT that we started on Friday morning. The PT was fun. I did really good. To be honest the hardest part was probably the run which wasn't bad at all. I felt really good after it. A lot of people were complaining of their legs feeling like jelly, but I felt very refreshed and my legs were fine. I actually scored the highest in the situp test and the bench press felt like I was lifting a feather. The vertical jump was a joke, and I did 40 pushups in about a minutes time. The pushup part wasn't timed, but I stopped when I first started feeling tired. I could've rested in the up position for some time, but I really would've only been able to pull off a few more and it just would've been a waste of time. Deciding to stick to a little bit of exercise these last few years really paid off.
The written test wasn't near as easy as the PT. It started out as an interesting test. Some of the problems took a lot of time, but they weren't difficult. Then I got to the 25 question vocabulary and I felt like my brain power decreased by about 50%. I think I maybe answered one of those correctly. The whole time I was trying to remember a time that Tonya might have used these words in a sentence. She has very good vocabulary you know. I, in case you haven't noticed, do not. Everybody else in the room said they had about the same amount of success. I still passed, but after that test a little over half of the applicants had been cut. That left about 24 of us going into the oral interview.
After the written test they took all the passers into another room and set up a time when we would be interviewed. I, of course, would be the last one going in at 3:30 on Saturday. The majority of the people that were left were not from around here and were already going through the Academy. I'm not sure if that meant there was more going for them or not. I must say that we were all a pretty sharp looking group. It felt pretty cool to make it that far through all the testing on my first try. We all will be getting a call this next week to find out where we stand. The rumor is that there are 6 positions that will be filled. I'm so excited. Like I said, I really gave it my all, even if I do not get accepted I will continue working towards getting into Law Enforcement. I've always thought it would be an awesome career. The whole job tryout thing was an experience I have never had at any other job. For once I was able to meet all the applicants. Everybody gave each other a lot of encouragement throughout the whole thing. It was just really cool to see that many people trying their best to achieve the same thing you were working towards.
All of the officers at the testing new who I was off the bat, so I got picked on quite a bit. When I walked up to the the verticle jump the Lt. asked me my name. When I told it to him he was like. . . "I knew it. This whole time I've been thinking that you look exactly like Dave Bithell." The bench press guy took my name and asked my relations to Vance and Dave. I replied that I was their brother and the guy was like "But, your the last one aren't you". He joked about being glad that I was the final one because St. George just couldn't handle any more of those Bithell boys on the force. They also said that they scored my test three times to see if they could get a failing score. The interview and testing crew was a cool bunch. I know most of you probably think the police force is made up of a bunch of dicks, but I know a lot of them and I must say that they are people that I have always respected for a long time.
I think I have blabbered enough. I guess the main point is that I passed everything and will find out in the next few days if I get to do the lie detector stuff or if I'm gonna have to try again. It was very fun. Bye Bye.
