Last time I mentioned my pets it was to say Sparky died. Well, good news! We got two new kittens!
My mother insisted we couldn't get any new pets until after our week-long family reunion at the lake, but the day after the vacation was over my brother and I attacked the internet. We found a family selling kittens just down the road from our house so we packed up and went to visit. (I should note that I took three Benadryl here. No other allergy meds available and I am very allergic to cats, but I have to take more than the recommended amount because the normal amount doesn't work for me.)
There were five kittens available and after at least thirty minutes of arguing, my brother and I decided on two female kittens. His kitten is brownish with darker stripes. She was originally named Bast (totally cool) but my sister mocked him so now she's Skelly (as in Skeleton because of her stripes). I picked a light grey kitten with darker stripes. She's gorgeous and playful, but very loud. She complains about everything. She was going to be called River (as in River Tam from Firefly) because she was kind of a spaz and kept attacking my brother. That was vetoed by the family. I went through several other fandom names, but my family thinks fandom is stupid so I'm not allowed to name anything after a character from my shows/books. At the moment she's just called Cat because they won't let me name her and they're not coming up with any good names either. If it doesn't get resolved soon I'm either going to keep calling her Cat or she's going to become Ghost.
As a funny side note, I actually had a kitten named Kitten once. Eventually se became Kitten-Cat and then Kit-Cat. Ironically, they look pretty similar. Cat is lighter, but not by much.
I also feel like I should justify why we're getting kittens instead of adopting an older cat like we should. The cat that has outlived Gigantor, Molly, and Sparky is really finicky and nervous. Sylvester is our little prince and we need to make sure he's happy above all else. He's actually decidedly not happy about the kittens, but he'll get used to them. We were worried that adopting an older cat would be even more threatening to him, though, and that he'd run away or get abused again like when Molly was around. So, for the baby's sake we got kittens that he can train to his own desire.
Once I figure out how to connect the camera to my laptop I'll put up pictures of the girls.
