So, there's that crazy lady in California who had octuplets. The media has decided she is the "octo mom" but that's just stupid. She has a few different names on the books too. So, let's just assume you know who I'm talking about.
So, she has 6 kids through IVF, no job, no house, and nobody cares.
She has octuplets through IVF, and everyone wants to know what the fuck happened.
So, is it her fault she had octuplets? I'm going with no. No doctor should have implanted that many eggs. She had successful IVF in the past. It isn't like they tried with 2 eggs, it failed, so they kept increasing the number.
This is a woman who was spending thousands of dollars to have a baby. Expecting that she would then choose to abort some of the fetuses that result is a little absurd. I'm not saying that it is absurd to reduce, I'm saying it is absurd that anyone (doctor, medical board, etc.) should expect someone who wants a baby that much to reduce.
So, she has eight babies. Big hoopla ensues. Now, she's being crucified by the media. Is she crazy? Yeah. Is she a bad parent? Yeah. Is she the craziest, worst parent out there? No.
She is irresponsible because she has 14 kids under the age of 8 and she can't afford them. She might be the first WOMAN to ever have that many young kids. But I can assure you that she is not the first PERSON to have that many young kids. I bet there are a shocking number of irresponsible MEN who have vast numbers of young children they cannot begin to support.
So... yes, it is an awful situation. I think the root of the problem is in the medical system though.
Crazy people aren't going anywhere, so we need to recognize them and limit their negative effects on the rest of society.
